"TV Asahi's "Super Sentai Series" to End Broadcast
https://oricon.co.jp/article/3076616/ It has been learned through interviews with related parties that the TV Asahi-affiliated "Super Sentai Series" will conclude with the currently airing work. The popular series, which began with "Himitsu Sentai Gorenger" in 1975, will draw the curtain on its half-century history." https://x.com/oricon/status/1983842865450209612 |

Stunning, but also not entirely surprising. Sentai has been rating poorly on TV Asahi for several years now. Apparently there are rumors this is just Toei planning a rebrand, which reeks of desperation to me if that turns out to be the case.
Either way, it's truly the end of an era. |

inb4 they do a rebrand just as a way for them to easily air stuff internationally without Hasbro needing to get involved because of how Power Rangers and Super Sentai are connected via contract.

Definitely some sad news to wake up to. Super Sentai's always been a constant in my life; new year, new series. But hopefully they'll come back one day when the time is right.
I guess it also makes sense now that they used what many consider a technicality to end on the 50th Sentai as well as the 50th year; they probably knew Gozyuger would be the last, and wanted to go out with a celebration of the franchise. And how fitting that the 50th Anniversary logo features the first and last Reds... Very bittersweet at best, but I'd rather see a series I love take an extended hiatus rather than crash and burn completely. |

I think everyone could see the writing on the wall for years at this point, but it's still sad to see happen. I sincerely hope that at the very least we get some kind of replacement tokusatsu series to round out the Super Hero Time block along with Rider, whether it is something new or a revival of an old Toei tokusatsu.
...I'm actually feeling more emotional about this than I expected. Maybe because I'm watching Kiramager right now and it's really resonated with me in some ways. |

Based on further reading, it sounds like TV Asahi is completely pulling out of co-producing. I'm not entirely sure how Toei could be expected to continue producing Sentai without one of their main production partners.
Even if Sentai does continue under a new name, it will almost certainly not be on TV Asahi. And if it does continue, I can't imagine it being a full 50-episode series anymore. |

I'll look forward to the first season of Chou Super Sentai airing in 2026.

This is a punch to the gut.
On the one hand, I know that sales/ratings for Sentai haven't been great but it's hard to believe we might be living in a world where Sentai and Rider aren't together airing back-to-back or that we won't be getting more Sentai seasons...even if they might rebrand, it might not feel the same. I just don't know how to feel about this. |

Unexpected but unsurprising.
