My copy of the third set showed up a few days ago. As a whole, it's a pretty good set (at least if you didn't already own DimeVolcano.)
EXTRA PARTS The best part of the set is the new head for KishiryuOh. This kind of painted part is something I'd expect from Super Minipla, so it's nice to see it implemented in the regular line. It's put together out of three parts: the face, the front of the helmet, and (a first for this line) the back of the helmet. I love this because one of my least favorite elements of this year's minipla is that the heads are one-sided. Bandai didn't try to replicate the RyuSouls, but the heads nevertheless feature one of their least charming elements. This head fixes that. It still requires stickers for the helmet itself, but they're better-designed than the first time around. Upside: it looks terrific. Downside: all the previously released heads look lame by comparison. Here's what baffles me: Kishiryu Neptune's head is the standard one-sided type. I realize they probably didn't have the budget to paint another face, but they could at least have provided a three-dimensional head like the other one. This box came with a navy blue sprue, so it could've been possible. Next up, we have the new hands for KishiryuOh. My feelings are mixed. I love that it gives us a new display option, and the hands are expressive. The problem is that they're in red. WHAT. THE. SNACK?! To look right, the hands need to be in black. I'm reminded of a couple of the extra hands that were included with minipla GekiTouja, where some were in the appropriate red, and some were in black (I may try to see if the black hands from that set will fit the newer figure.) Although there were no black sprues in this box, there were elsewhere in the wave, and they already had a few instances of including parts in a box intended for use with another box. The only explanation that would make sense to me is that this box hadn't originally been planned for this wave, but it's got Neptune's head in it. It's just baffling. This box features a small, slightly articulated RyuSoul in knight mode. It doesn't do much, but it's got little indentations on the underside of the feet to allow it to ride atop TyrAmigo like it occasionally does on the show. There are swivels at the hips and knees, the right arm/sword is on a ball joint, and the shield is on a swivel. He's cute but inessential. At least he can sit! The last part of this box is three floating pieces. Two of them are adapters that would allow you to connect pieces that otherwise wouldn't be able to join because they use the same connector type. These are kinda cool, although I'd have been happier if they'd have been in gray or black, since that's the color of most of the connectors in the line. The third is a gray rendition of the part they included with TyrAmigo to extend the neck. Not sure where they intended for this one to be used. KISHIRYU DIMEVOLCANO Despite that he's larger and there's more going on with him, DimeVolcano has a lot more in common with AnkyRose and TriKen than with TyrAmigo or MosaRex. He's basically a brick with no articulation to speak of. However, he's at least a decent-looking brick, as the use of clear, orange plastic here does a lot to enhance its appearance. There's heavy use of gold stickers with... mixed... results. Like other Kishiryu in this line, he's only really supposed to look good from one side; the other suffers from an understandable lack of stickers on the spine. The included head for KishiryuOh DimeVolcano looks pretty great. They did this smart thing where they included teeny-tiny stickers for each eye and larger ones for the helmet, but otherwise didn't paint the face, so this skirts the "face looks messed-up because it's a sticker laying on an irregular surface" thing. As a minipla, he's fine. Most of my gripes about DimeVolcano are based on the design of the DX, and while the minipla people can sometimes work wonders, I don't know how much they realistically could have done with this one. The head-thing for Kishiryu SpinoThunder is small and flat. It doesn't look very good as a head or as a thing to plug into most configurations. KISHIRYUOH DIMEVOLCANO There's not much to say about this combination, but I like it. The head looks good despite being one of the standard flat ones. I can't figure out why they put drills on either side of the upside-down DimeVolcano head rather than guns. The weapons look fine, and fit well in the robot's hands. MOSAREX NOW we're talkin'. As MosaRex, this thing has a surprising amount of articulation for getting him into fishy poses. Also, there are very few stickers, most of which aren't visible in this mode (aside from the optional AmmoKnuckles.) Most everything is in nice, molded colors. Getting the eye stickers in place is a bit of a fiddly challenge, but the final effect looks great. KISHIRYU NEPTUNE In robot mode, it's pretty tidy, and it improves on the DX in a number of ways. As is expected of minipla these days, the articulation is really very good: ball ankles, knees that can get a more than 90-degree bend, a waist twist, articulated skirt armor, waist twist, ball jointed (but backless) head, fantastic shoulder movement, two twists at the elbows, thigh swivels, rotating hands, and probably other stuff I'm forgetting. Almost all of this is usable. The elbows are probably the weakest articulation point, and that's all down to the design of the forearms. The legs are really clever: the fins on the back of the calves would block the knee articulation, so they designed the fins to flip out and away to make room for further bending. Another clever element is that because the robot's head would be largely hidden by the mouth, they built it so you can remove each part of the mouth and peg it into an extra set of pegs that allow the mouth parts to sit away from the head. Because they're each on pegs, you can also rotate them forward are back. I like having them rotated a little back so the head is more prominent. As a standalone robot, he's great. This is very much the kind of thing minipla excels at. As a mecha in the Ryusoulger line, he may be a tad lacking, since he doesn't make much use of the connection ports that defined the other releases in the line. I'm still experimenting with alternate ways to display him. I can turn him into TriKen Neptune or AnkyRose Neptune using the parts from the same KishiryuOh configurations and removing the AmmoKnuckles in favor of the weapon ends (using the adapter for AnkyRose's hammer.) Oh, hey. I just figured out how to do a TriKen-and-AnkyRose combination. Looks like I should keep messing with this. AMMOKNUCKLES Well... these exist. They look fine alone, but as fists, they're clumsy and can't hold Neptune's weapon well. They're probably the weakest element of this design, and the minipla folks couldn't do much to fix that because it's baked into the base design. SPINOTHUNDER I initially thought this mode was a brick because I simply didn't notice the thigh swivels on the legs. The coolest part of the combination is muted here, because the extending horn on the nose of MosaRex, which looks cool on the DX, looks more like a loose flap here. As much as I appreciate that this mode exists, I don't know how often I'll be displaying it like this. The arms in this mode are super-awkward. KISHIRYUOH SPINOTHUNDER Clusterbleep time! It's about as good as it could be given the design of this mecha. There's some relatively decent articulation because it's still ultimately based on the terrific KishiryuOh, but the legs and arms of Neptune serving as shoes and shin armor... well, you've seen it. It's not great. It could be worse, but it's still a lot of unnecessary stuff attached to the legs because reasons. The ports on the shoulders are once again taken up with the DimeVolcano canons, so they're not good for much else. The TyrAmigo-head-as-weapon thing looks just as good as it does in other combinations, but the MosaRex-head-as-weapon just looks kinda lonely. I fooled around with it a bit yesterday trying to find a halfway decent combination that takes advantage of AnkyRose, TriKen, the drills, guns, and the parts of DimeVolcano and Neptune that were unused. It looked... like a lot of stuff slapped on top of KishiryuOh. As a whole, I'm mostly satisfied with the set. The enhancements for KishiryuOh are cool enough to make me reluctant to put him in any combination that doesn't use the new head. I'm a little bummed that I still don't have MiiNeedle or TigerLance since I skipped the second set, but I'm pretty glad I didn't have to purchase DimeVolcano, AnkyRose, and Triken twice. I don't know how much further I'll dip into this line. Neptune and KishiryuOh are good-to-great mecha in minipla form, but the rest only look good in combinations that utilize the line's modular nature, and MosaRex/Neptune suggests the designers may not be interested in going much further down that path. Preorder has opened for series 5
There is only a big box for now. A complete set will be 7 boxes. Will it be yokuryuoh, the raptors and pachygraoo or something else ? No real info for now. There are some japanese site talking about a serie 06 for november, but those link are not available anymore (it only speak of a big box with 10 boxes and that a complete set was 5 boxes) If it is all remaining kishiryu, it is strange that there are not individual set. But preorder may open later (like last year for set 04). neoxul |

Real glad I waited on that. Already got series 2, so 5 will get me everything I’m missing. Except for 4 I suppose. Just need to find a good deal on that from a reseller, seeing as the only other way is buying three sets of it at once.

Didn't expect to see pictures of set 6 before having a preorder for it ! But should mean we will have preorders opening soon...
Here it is The big box has 12 boxes, 4 boxes for a set. It looks like we will not get a set for this one A part of this box is still hidden, it should be the head used when three knight, neptune and yokuryuoh fuse together neoxul Last edited by neoxul; 10-04-2019 at 11:13 AM.. |
