I wouldn't say Super Sentai had a dork age.
Go-Busters may not have been the most popular, but it wasn't a massive letdown, and Go-Buster Ace sold like mad. While Kyoryuger was pretty decisive for the older fans, I'm pretty certain it was a hit with the target demographic. For ToQger, it's about as 50/50 as Kyoryuger, but from what I've heard, once you got past all the "IMAGINATION!" stuff, it was pretty fun (Haven't seen it, can't confirm) Ninninger is bad. Zyuohger is good c: As for Kyuragner, I'm hearing people vouching for it that it gets better and Lucky actually grows. I don't believe them, but if they say so, then okay. A bad season or two in a row isn't that rare for Sentai, and they typically tend to pick things up when they notice things are going south to shake things up some. So I wouldn't say Sentai has had a "Dork age."

Kyuranger was a step in the right direction in terms of marketing. It had a unique gimmick to it compared to other seasons, which helped it catch on. I remember reading that it actually helped Sentai's toy sales in Japan.
If you want to talk sales wise, then yeah, Sentai's had a bit of a dork age. The Go-Busters to Zyuohger era was a bit of a mess. It was either the shows weren't doing well, or the toys weren't doing well (Or both in the case of Go-Busters). Kyuranger helped in both areas from what I recall, even if it wasn't as popular over here. And I still think that the last ten to fifteen episodes are really good. |

Yes, Ninninger’s toy sale was very awful and some people think Ninninger could have killed the franchise like how Fiveman almost ended Sentai until Jetman convince Toei to keep going with Sentai.

I have two words. Citation. Needed. ToQger still sold well and again, Kyoryuger was a beast. 1 bad year of toy sales won't kill off the franchise. Otherwise Drive would be our last Kamen Rider season due to it's lower than Gaim sales.

Kyoryuger was my first Sentai (Thank you Emgo) and I pretty much enjoyed it.
I skipped ToQger because I wasn't interested in its theme (I strongly regret that decision). Ninninger started okay, but the abundance of filler episodes and sport-themed episodes and a lackluster final villain that didin't live to his hype made it a pretty much lackluster series. Zyuohger had great main characters and great music and some villain had some interesting parts, but the final villain was greatly lacking. Kyuranger suffered from too many characters in my opinion and one of the most annoying Reds ever, but I guess the toys were some of the best in a long time. LupvsPat is so far a step in the right direction in everything. The characters are not annoying, the toys look great and the plot is going well. |

Are we talking in terms of sales or quality? Because those are two very, VERY different topics and it makes no sense to talk about the two in the same vein.

As a point of reference, here are the annual domestic sales starting with Go-Busters. The additional info are from the respective show's Japanese wikipedia page that has citations to sales and interviews, etc.
Go-Busters: 9.6 billion yen. Despite Go-Buster Ace and the buster machines getting awards and stuff, PLEX's Sojiro Tanaka has gone on to record to say that they regret not coming up with a solid alternative to collectables for the show, which Gokaiger had, and that is why they decided to sell zyudenchis for Kyoryuger the following year. Kyoryuger: 14.4 billion yen. It exceeded BOTH GOKAIGER AND GO-BUSTERS. Roleplay toy sales in terms of units were three times higher than the previous year, four times higher in terms of sales amount. 200K units of Kyoryujin were sold by summer 2013. Kyoryujin was the highest-selling sentai robot in a decade. ToQger: 11.3 billion yen. Ninninger: 7.8 billion yen. Zyuohger: 8.8 billion yen. Kyuranger: 9.1 billion yen. After the second major drought that was Ninninger, Super Sentai has been on a gradual rise as of Zyuohger. They hope to reach 10.5 billion yen for Lupinranger VS Patranger it seems. While we are at it, here are the Top 10 Bandai domestic toy sales for 2017. 1. Gundam. 26.2 billion yen. 2. Kamen Rider. 24.8 billion yen. 3. Dragon Ball. 14.2 billion yen. 4. Anpanman. 10.9 billion yen. 5. Super Sentai. 9.1 billion yen. 6. Pretty Cure. 8.1 billion yen. 7. One Piece. 4.6 billion yen. 8. Ultraman. 4.3 billion yen. 9. Pokemon. 4 billion yen. 10. Aikatsu. 2.3 billion yen. Overall sales rankings are different. 1. Dragon Ball. 97.9 billion yen. 2. Gundam. 68.3 billion yen. 3. One Piece. 29.4 billion yen. 4. Kamen Rider. 26.4 billion yen. 5. Super Sentai. 19.4 billion yen. 6. NARUTO. 11.3 billion yen. 7. Anpanman. 10.9 billion yen. 8. Pretty Cure. 8.1 billion yen. 9. Ultraman. 6 billion yen. 10. Aikatsu. 3.6 billion yen.

You know what's really crazy about Bandai's top ten brands? Yokai Watch is nowhere to be seen on them and you can still see some of the crazy numbers it was pulling in the previous year's on this year's data.

Meanwhile, a children's superhero whose head is made out of a red bean pastry and is the source for parody when it comes to One-Punch man does better than super sentai, pirates, ultraman, etc... *mind blown* I mean I know Anpanman is a household name but dang.
