I definitely appreciate how people around the internet sacrifice their own precious time to make sure no one gets spoiled. There are assholes everywhere, so it’s awesome that some people flag spoiler content on all sorts of sites. Because sadly people apparently try to spoil the fun on every possible website.
… Yes I haven’t seen the movie yet And it’ll take some time before I can go. Two weeks plus. Quote:

It's great, really great. There was only one element of it I felt let down on but I haven't had a cinema experience like that in years. I've got so much to say but I don't even want to post non-spoilery stuff. Everyone should go in knowing as little as possible.

His Trek movies was fine in my opinion. After how awful Nemesis was, I think the series needed a good reboot. A lot of people have mixed feelings for Into Darkness, but I really enjoy it a lot. I like JJ as a director. I like Super 8 and I enjoy Mission Impossible 3 from the bits of it that I've seen (I only seen the first MI movies). Disney did a good choice on hiring him for Star Wars.

Think that's the point it comes down to - I don’t. Every director has a certain style and I hate his. It’s not one the Michael Bay-level of awfulness, but I tend to ignore his movies after seeing Star Trek.
They leave me no choice for Star Wars, so I hope Disney kept him on a short leash. |

Star Wars The Force Awakens - Wow, the franchise is definitely in good hands. It does retread some old material and areas, but the characters are actually characters with development instead of just being a plot device as they were with the prequels. The light saber duels are done with such finesse and grit that they really feel like the this is a better to the death and now it has made me question whether the cool choreography of the prequels were actual fights at all. You could actually see the ferocity involved when dealing with a light saber. The effects are top notch and there seems to be a bunch of practical effects to go with the CGI. Kylo Ren is more Vader than he is Maul, which was great as he is also actually a character. Finally, I feel sorry for all of those people out there who were spending huge amounts of money on the Phasma figure because you are probably going to feel like an idiot for doing so. In the end, there is nothing more I can say without spoiling anything, so just go see the movie and open your minds to re-enter the Star Wars universe. JJ Abrahms work on Star Trek was just him practicing for this delectable film that kicks off a new era for Star Wars. I give it an 8/10.
Kiwami, JJ is the only man to have actually made Star Trek interesting to me. His two movies are far more entertaining for me than any thing else with the Trek name on it. |

J.J. Abrams definitely layed a great foundation for future movies to build on. Lets see what Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow will do with Episode eight and nine.

So I have an unpopular opinion...this recent movie was mostly fanservice and nostalgia baiting.
It had good parts, but serious?! Another Death Star-like weapon? Is that all the imagination these guys can muster? Kylo Ren is just another Skywalker? Or sorry, he's basically Jacen Solo, except now they call him Ben (not a bad choice, at least). Why can't he be an unrelated Sith Lord? Once again a droid holds a secret that Stormtroopers want. There's making heartwarming references to a movie people like or paying respects to previous entries, and then there's copying the same damn plot points. Sure, this time the Rebels/Resistance were more concerned with looking for Luke than TAKING OUT THE MULTI-PLANET BUSTING DEATH PLANET, but it's still the Resistance being on the run than this new story, which was supposed to be the idea, that it was new, giving them equal or slightly better standing against what remains of the empire. They get the actors from the Raid and treat them as canon fodder for those space beasts, Captain Phasma was Boba Fett in the sense that anyone without a stick up their ass knows he was worthless/cooler looking that he really was. Luke doesn't say the line from the trailer, hell he doesn't even say anything, just stands there awkwardly staring at this girl handing him what's supposed to be his lightsaber (wasn't it green in Return of the Jedi? Oh God, I'm becoming one of those fans). Kylo Ren started off cool, but he literally became as whiney as Anakin did right around the time he took off his helmet and looked just like Granddaddy. I won't say there weren't interesting parts. Han was as fun as always, BB-8 didn't need any time to grow on me, I'm a little suspicious of Poe but I like his character, Finn was interesting, and I liked that they pulled a slightly effective fast one on viewers by making Rey the actual new Jedi (though really, considering how much they brought up about Finn and how little they mentioned what Rey deal is in the trailers and info it should have been obvious. Though that scene where they fought off Tie Fighters in the Falcon makes me think they're both force-sensitive, Rey just has a stronger connection). The Nostalgia trip was nice until I realized that I was mostly seeing a rehash of A New Hope, with just no mentor Jedi to actually guide the new blood on their way from the start. I've yet to see more of the "official" reviewers take on the movie, but if they're soft on this movie, I'm going to laugh. Because this bullshit is barely tolerable to them in other series, so the bias would be just adorable to watch. Not a bad movie though, just not the best.
