Yeah, I remember getting that Casshern at a convention on a bootleg DVD (when bootleg DVDs and conventions were both things). I want to say it was one of the first films to to do a ton of CG sets, alongside Sky Captain and the Star Wars films. (There was also an Enki Bilal film I can't remember the name of?) I had no knowledge of the Casshern franchise when I saw it, so I could only judge it on raw entertainment value, and... yeah, "kind of mediocre" describes my memory of it.
Toshiaki Karasawa was the suit actor for Riderman in the Kamen Rider ZX one-shot special Susumu Terajima went on to play uncle Mario in Zyuohger Mitsuhiro Oikawa went on to be Kamen Rider 3 in the Kamen Rider 3 movie Tetsuji Tamayama was Tsukumaro/Gao Silver in Gaoranger Hiroyuki Miyasako went on to be the first voice actor for Ultraman Belial Mayumi Sada went on to be a Shocker member in the Kamen Rider The First movie Narrator Goro Naya was the Shocker leader in the original Kamen Rider show So March 2004. Faiz and Abaranger was done and Dekaranger and Kamen Rider Blade were the new cool kids. Dekaranger's first two episodes were just FUN. Deka Red going full Equilibrium and showing off his gunkata moves was just one of those scenes that you will rewind and watch for a good number of times. And Kamen Rider Blade confused everyone right off the bat with episode 1 and the shenanigans that followed. One of the things about Dekaranger is that their names are references to a certain type of tea and a mystery novelist. Quote:
The names of Dekarangers are in this format:
names = first names of mystery novelists nicknames = tea Akaza Banban is a reference to 'Agatha Christie' and Ban is a reference to the tea 'ban cha' Tomasu Houji is a reference to 'Thomas Harris' and Hoji is a reference to the tea 'houji cha' Enari Senichi is a reference to 'Ellery Queen' and the Sen in Sen-chan is a reference to the tea 'sen cha' Marika Reimon is a reference to 'Raymond Chandler' and Jasmine is a reference to the tea 'jasmine tea' Kodou Koume is a reference to 'Nomura Kodou' and the Ume in Umeko is a reference to the tea 'ume cha' Aira Tekkan is a reference to 'Ira Levin' and Tetsu is a reference to 'tekkannoncha(tieguanyin tea)' Last edited by Sunred; 01-16-2021 at 04:12 PM.. |

Oh, I remember seeing this Ichigo & Kuuga advert around!
I love these 555 scans. For as much as I complain about Inoue, 555 was a really good show, I feel. |

Oh god, if memory serves me right, that's an ad for the really awful Resident Evil clone for the PS2. Don't ever play it.

I haven't watched Kiva yet, but I'll go ahead and say Faiz is pretty much his masterpiece. Definitely my favorite Phase 1 Heisei show so far. Great cast, huge themes, and so many smart details. I love it!

Conversely, I'm watching Kiva literally as we speak, and, well, meh. I mean, it's not dreadful, but in a lot of places it's Inoue trying to emulate Kobayashi, presumably because of the popularity of Den-o, and it doesn't suit him at all, which is a shame. tl;dr thumbs up for 555, it's a really solid story. |

It's such an interesting take on The Rider's Burden, you know? It's a guy saying I Hate Myself For Having To Do This But I'd Rather Hate Myself Than See People Get Killed. That's such an Inoue way to approach things like heroism, sacrifice, duty... I love it! I love it so much!

I'll third that Faiz is Inoue's best work. Best Rider show, actually.
Those Yuka pictures are pretty great as well.

ああああ ~ I want to run him over with a truck, but at the same time, his entire character arc is just a brilliant bit of storytelling. *stabs Kaixa voodoo doll* |
