I've been and am in the same boat. Trying to go out with random women is fairly tough because, they're random women. You know nothing about them, so trying to talk before you ask is awkward. Whereas if you try to do the same thing with a friend, it's still awkward, but it's easier to slide into conversation with them.
I've been burnt to man, but you never know until you try. You can not succeed without the risk of failure. And if you're not afraid of failure, man you can go anywhere or do anything. Quote:
Just throwing this out there: if you are going on a first date, try something where you have a task to accomplish together, like bowling, or a cooking class, or a crafting workshop, or a walking tour/scavenger hunt. Having something to do besides sitting at a table staring at each other will help break the ice, and get conversation going because you are doing the task together. It's sort of a cliche but it works.
Being friends with a girl you are romantically interested in is very frustrating, but without a basis of friendship, it's hard for a relationship to last. Again, another cliche, but my wife and I are each other's beast friends. We have some things we share an interest in, and some things we do not (the other night she said to me "I just don't get Ultra," heh!), but our relationship grew based on our respect and friendly admiration. This is not to say that being stuck in the Friend Zone doesn't suck! But XW1n5t0nX (how the heck do you remember that when you log in?) is right -- you cannot succeed without the risk of failure! And of course there is the old "go out with a group of friends" chestnut.

You see that is another thing, what do normal people do? A great day for me, is going out for a coffee and a pastry, catching the latest action flick and then coming home to toku and a mound of cereal. I'm pretty sure if I asked a girl to join me on that, she'd say no.

Anyway, from what I know of the Smurfs movies (Thank you, Andre), they apparently leave a lot to be desired.

The problem with a movie is that you are not talking... unless the plan is a makeout session; then, by all means!

The problem with movies are that it's pretty hard to figure out what to actually go and see, or if you're home, what to pick.
