Was... Was I really the last person to use this thread? Gosh. Well anyways, I watched Ohranger all the way through. I honestly was expecting to hate it, but it was pretty enjoyable. Not GOOD mind you, but fun. The characters in this one were pretty bland, I feel like Momo was the only one that was interesting and I am pretty sure you could remove Riki from the show with almost no impact. I have to give this show credit where it is due though, if I had to pick one show that contained the condensed essense of tokusatsu, I would choose this one. It somehow feels like the most tokusatsu of then all (whatever that means).

I like ohranger more for the story your right about the characters though, it was one of the really disappointing things about the show that saddened me after having waiting a while to see it was that they were just kinda the generic 5 man band toku
red-leader blue -lancer green-big guy yellow and pink were the girly girl with the brains being the mentor who kept building their tech and gold (riki) was the sixth man who's main priority is protecting his princess though i like the story and the action its one the ones i like a lot out of the tokus but its something ive noticed in a lot of mid 93 sentais the characterization isn't as strong in later sentai series but then again i think it a product of the times so we can cut it some slack there |

Me and my friend finished Ohranger last week. He's actually pretty sad to see it go. Especially Juri/Ohyellow. He had a real crush on her actress. It was definitly not the strongest show character wise, but we liked the Baranoia designs, and the mecha. It probably would have been better if we didn't get the tonal swings. As he put it "Here's an goofy episode with them teaching the robots to dance. Here's the incredibly creepy episode with the serial killer robot going after young girls." Still as much as he loved the series I'm thinking about getting him the DVD set next month for his birthday.
I was a bit surprised shout's streaming service didn't have Carranger on it. I think my friend would love it due to how silly it is, but we moved onto Megaranger. Definitly interesting to see what they took and what they changed from when the did PR in Space. Well they added a lot more space. Character's seem a bit more distinct, but I had to stop and keep explaining certain Japanese High School tropes to him, like sleeping in the Nurses Office or Love Confessions. Also a good set of Villains, I prefer a memorable gang of baddies in Sentai. Oh and that absolutly freaky moment where you find out what kind of movies Shibolina's actress was in doing the show. I had to show him the wikipedia page before he'd believe me on that one. Last edited by Super Angillis; 01-22-2018 at 06:04 PM.. |

Just finished Gingaman last night. It was a pretty fun show and I really liked how Barban consisted of four different armies (even though it wasn't as dynamic as in Metalder).
Wanted to go for Battle Fever next but I didn't like the subs, since quite some spoken lines got skipped and it generally felt off. With no more full proper subs for pre-zyu sentai left, I'm proceeding to finish the 90s shows. GoGoV it is then. |

I know I'm late to discovering it, but I stumbled onto unofficial Sentai Akibaranger today and I'm only one episode in and I think it's really funny. I like that's it's so meta and trying to be like 'what if they were real' or something,..and how the Red Ranger is just totally delusional.
Can't even begin to describe what I just saw and I know it's only 13 episodes but I feel a binge coming on. Too funny. When he pressed against the glass of the Toku store basically almost crying because he's not going to buy the robot figure and is like, "..but I'm glad I met you." I laughed out loud. What a weird show. It's like Geed, how Ultraman Geed was also an Otaku,..but it's way funnier than that because you can tell they're not really trying to be serious, but are 'sort of' trying to be serious? ...like I said I can't describe what I just saw. It was weird and funny and I have a feeling I'm going to end up binging the 13 episodes this weekend. I like how his Boss sort of slapped him around like, "You're not a Red Ranger you're a Delivery Man!" while ripping the tape and 'team logo' off his jacket. |

Finished Season One of Akibaranger and am a couple episodes into Season Two.
I really like it and the reverence it has for the source material ('real' Sentai shows) comes through in every episode. It's a fun show and it has me excited to watch more original/official Sentai. So far the only real Sentai I've seen is Zyuranger, which I actually liked quite a bit more than I was expecting to. So I DL'd a few more seasons based on a friends/fans recommendation but I hadn't gotten around to seeing them, (in favor of watching more and more Kamen Rider.) But some of the series I have are referred to in Akibaranger and I'm more interested in watching them sooner now. Akibaranger has been a lot of fun though and I'm glad I watched it on a whim. Mostly I was thinking 13 episodes for a season would be pretty easy to get through, and it was. I just wasn't prepared to like it as much as I have. The fighting is good, the acting is funny, the stories and characters are good. It's definitely a Sentai show, just one that's rather tongue in cheek. I like the weird 'Stranger Than Fiction' aspect to it. Is it a show? Is it real life? Is it real life that thinks it's a show? Is it a show that thinks it's real life? The fact the characters are Otaku and big fans who watch the actual Sentai shows and refer to them is an interesting world within a world thing. It reminds me a lot of Ultraman Geed and how much he loved Tokusatsu as well. I mean a show about a big Toku fan who gets to be a Red Sentai. How could I not want to watch that? I just wasn't expecting it to be as good and funny as it is. |

I was enjoying hurricaneger but then someone at kissasian got lazy and didn't bother to update the subs past episode four. Shame, since the subbers seem to have forgotten anidex exists and never added them to that site.
