Nope, they hit the reset button to make everything all right. Yui did not want to live in a world where people would have to die for her to survive, so she and Shiro changed history so that they died in the fire of the house, making it so none of the Rider battle or even the mirror monsters existed.
Up until that point, I had really liked what was done though. Gorou proving his loyalty. Kitaoka accepting his fate happily - though he never did make that date. Asakura being robbed of revenge and finally just gunned down instead of arrested. Ren in absolute anguish. Shinji dead after finally making up his mind. It was all very powerful and emotional and I loved it. Then time gets reset? (Though with Odin apparently defeated and use of the Time Vent card not shown, I don't buy it so easily...) That's not a good ending. It was better than Episode Final at least since it had an ending, and I've yet to watch 13 Riders... But still. It wasn't my favorite outcome, because it made that emotional roller coaster they had just put me through and tore it all down. Last edited by Electric Turahk; 08-09-2012 at 10:23 AM.. |

What was the name of the piano music during the time reversal scene? I've been searching all morning for it.

Well here's the part I think the writers had a problem with. They had essentially created a Grand Guignol in a show which was primarily meant for kids ages 12 and up. Somewhere down the line I think a compromise had to be made so that they wouldn't have parent groups breathing down their necks. Sure, Agito and Kuuga had a lot more darker themes but they had more...conventional endgames as compared to Ryuki.
And to be frank this debate only comes up when viewed by fans of our demographic, the older fans who are familiar with terms like Deus Ex Machina. I had this debate with several forumers about the Legend of Korra along the same vein about how much they can push the boundaries in a kids' show. If I were a kid, and I had watched every Rider in Ryuki essentially dying, I'd be crushed. Just like how Optimus died in the old animated movie. So someone on the writing staff thought of the children. I can live with it. |

Technically, all the endings can be considered canon. The idea is that Kanzaki tried to use the Rider War to save Yui's life multiple times, but each time he failed and ended up using Odin's Time Vent to rewind time and start over. Episode Final and 13 Riders were earlier versions of the Rider War that subsequently got wound back and done over. The series is the final version as it ends with Kanzaki accepting that Yui doesn't want him to save her like this so they go and draw with crayons forever.
Then again, it wasn't a huge hit in Japan for whatever reason so I think they just moved past it and focused on Faiz. |

From what I saw, once the reset was done Shiro lives but dies in the US while Yui stayed dead as a childd.
It's implied that once Ren put the ring on Eri's finger, he died.

Methinks I'll just be happier if I pretend the montage was a "what if" and that they really did all die... |

I used to look at the happy montage as the way their lives could've played out had the Rider Battle not happened. Now I really do see it as the reset. Once Kanzaki realized that Yui was happier having died in the fire I think this was his gift to the riders. Bringing them all back and giving them a second chance. I don't think Ren's victory or wish had anything to do with it. This was all on Kanzaki.
