Makes sense.
There's been a bunch of times watching Kamen Rider or Sentai where I thought, "this wouldn't be shown to young kids in America." Heck just last night watching Dairangers the Gorma woman was hurt in the fight and had blood coming out of both eyes while she yelled that she was blind and couldn't see. That wouldn't work here, they'd never show something like that to little kids. The violence in Dairanger could work for kids in the US, but sadly people still think that your kid will become the next Jeffrey Dahmer if your kid sees blood on TV or in a video game.

Eh, part of what makes Build's writing what it is is the social commentary, Japan's getting their first major milotary shift since WWII iirc, which would fly over the heads of American audiences. Though theoretically I think the show would do fine if all that got censored was the on screen deaths and Utsumi getting shot early on in the show. They still haven't gotten back to that now that I think about it...

You could have the adaption be written around the social commentary going on in the US. The Sky Wall in the show could be easily be used as a social satire on Trump's wall. American Toku adaption shows don't always follow the story and themes 100% from their Japanese counterpart.

Also why is it doomed to fail? It's like Daredevil or Arrow or the Flash of Jessica Jones but explicitly for kiddos. |

It's already pretty niche and despite often trying to be more serious, America never got mainstream henshin heroes like this, making people assume it's kiddy. Plus, people who are already Kamen Rider fans would either complain it's not different enough or too different meaning a lose-lose there. Dragon Knight's ratings were low so that tells us there wasn't much interest, toy sales were low but from what I saw toys came out months after the show started, meaning if they were more aggressive with marketing they could maybe find a boost. I'd LOVE to be wrong though

Good point, but I still think if we did get a new American Kamen Rider show adapted from a Japanese show, I feel like Drive would work better. Kids love toy cars and you can easily adapted it as something like Masked Rider Racer. If Saban did wanted to do adapt a new Rider show, they could have easily use Drive as a member in the intergalactic TV game show in Ninja Steel. We do have Ninninger crossover footage with Drive that they could easily use.

...I just know one of these days I'll have to buck up and watch Dragon Knight.
I did find a copy of it and save it, but I can't even say I put it on the Back Burner as much as I shoved it behind the Stove. hahahaha |
