Alright, made it to the Green With Evil Saga finally! I'm gonna watch these block of episodes, then drop this show.
So, Part 1, I have to say, this was fucking awesome! Minus the budget limitations with the Green Ranger's initial morph and Dragon Shield, and Trini and Kimberly dribbling over Tommy, the Green Ranger got to fuck up a damn lot of shit to really establish he means business and it was great. Even Tommy got a fair amount of good scenes to really establish why he'd be chosen, drawing in the martial arts competition with Jason and then taking down a bunch of putties, in a really impressive couple of action sequences. Even if JDF SUCKED at acting at this point. I also forgot the Green Ranger went all DBZ on their asses. Also it seems Goldar's voice actor changed, this is the one I remember, I always hated Goldar's voice, it was actually painful to listen to. Still, I missed these days when Goldar was an actual decent villain and not there for pure comic relief. Anyone else think it was awfully convenient the way Billy and Alpha were positioned when Alpha had to shutdown? I mean the show was notorious for the bullying for him being gay... Then again for a bunch of homophobes, the relationship between Zack and Jason is erm...very interesting. "Zack's Wax?" Jason giggles, before the two whip each other with clothes in glee. These two are about as straight as a circle.

Part 2: One of the strangest parts of Part 2 is just how bad it made Jason look, it was Zack who kept his cool, who held the team together and really took a proactive stance to fix the mess. Jason completely crumpled under the stress and basically became the bully character he would be if this was any other show. Makes it seem like Zack should have been Red instead, as he has the better attitude and is just as good a fighter. Seems a real misstep to show up your Red this much. Hell they even did the most obvious thing with Zack as leader, go straight to Megazord!
How did they not know Tommy was the Green Ranger when he was the only other person in school dressed from head to toe in a single primary colour? I mean maybe he just liked green but it's kinda a big coincidence, I'm guessing those clothes were special ordered, hell he seems more into the whole colours in civilian form relating to my Ranger form than most of the actual Rangers do. Then again the acting is so poor in this show, I'm not surprised Jason didn't even notice a change in Tommy (arfarf I am hilarious). To be fair the villains are extremely effective here, their plan might not exactly be genius or grandiose but they sure get the job done. It's amazing that after doing nothing for 16 episodes these now may be the most effective villains in Power Rangers history. God I am enjoying this arc, if only the rest of the show was this good.

Ok I forgot how much I loved light speed rescue carter and Ryan are so far my fave characters. Dana still the better actress I think between the 2 female rangers Kelsey sounds like she forcing here lines. Rest of the cast was good and I do like how there a lot American footage used with monsters due to the change of actress for vipra still the worst even now. Time force after this thanks to Netflix

Well, now that I have rewatched Shinkenger, I plan to watch Samurai starting tomorrow. With that said, I have been told most of the episode plots are exactly the same, so I'm not really going to watch every episode. Does anyone have an episode numbers I should watch? Such as anything that features the footage of Takeru and Juuzo fighting, the apperance of ShinkenGold, Dayuu's origins, obviously new mech upgrades, Akumaro's appearance and death, etc? I figure out of the 40 episodes I'll end up being able to skip a third of the series.

Green With Evil 3 was probably the weakest episode. I mean minus the Green Ranger who just spent the episode doing karate katas and shouting 'ayah' the villains are really enjoyable in this arc, I loved seeing Goldar going to town on that model city.
But everything else about this episode was stupid and it was full of plotholes. Since when was the Megazord solar powered? And I love how Jason was so useless they had to create a plothole for him to escape through. Plus Tommy is making no effort to hide his identity yet the arc continues to draw out his identity like it is meant to be some kind of mystery. That wasn't even mentioning Scorpina who was just kinda chucked in there for no reason. She is hot though.

Isn't Clash of the Red Rangers just the cross over episodes?
Why is that there? Oh yeah, and odd, I thought Super Samurai was only 20 episodes. Last edited by Dr Kain; 08-06-2013 at 12:07 AM.. |

Part 4 was another weak one.
I like how Mighty Morphin can't even seem to grasp what a Power Ranger is. Over the course of these four Green with Evil episodes they've both reduced a Power Ranger to being simply a costume, all the way to some mythic transdimensional energy force. Also, why even disable their morphin if only in literally a minute of screentime Billy fixes it again? All the Megazord stuff was hella dumb as well, why do the Rangers care so much? There has been no sense of bonding or a friendship between the Rangers and their zords, it was just pointless melodrama when they got destroyed. Plus, solar power doesn't work that way.

Well, I watched the first 5 episodes to Samurai, and I just don't get some of it. First off, I actually have no problem with them doing a direct adaptation of Shinkenger. In fact, I think that is pretty cool, except, it doesn't make sense to me. Jayden is way too friendly with the rangers from the get go, and open to them being there. The first episode already wrote off the entire kagemusha plot, which kind of sucks as it would have been interesting to see how Saban did it. Then you have episodes like the baseball kid. It was effective having him willing to give up his hobby to get his grandfather brought back to life in Shinkenger, but here, it just did not work. All he had to do was throw out his stuff? That is it? And it was because his dad is in the army? Where is the impact of that? The drama?
Also, I don't get the point of the Mega armor. Was it really necessary to shoot new footage in the mecha? The armor just looks dumb, as do the folding swords. However, when do I get to see them fight the monsters in that armor? It would be a waste to create your own costumes and not have the rangers actually use them any other time, regardless of how dumb they look. Finally, while I get where they are going with Spike being Skull's son, I am really getting tired of hearing him snort. |
