I remember when I used to like Kamen Rider Ghost. It didn’t last long.
But don’t worry; there are lots of good shows you haven't seen yet. As far as Kamen Rider goes, most of them are pretty good IMO. |

I'm excited about most of my unseen series for a variety of reasons. I want to see a big Rider vs Rider series like Ryuki. I want to see how good Den-O really is. I'm fascinated by what Hibiki is like. It's all very exciting!

I mean, I really liked Ghost.
Got a Deviantart Stash write up here (yes I use Stash as a memo of sorts) if you wanna see my thoughts on every character. It does contain character spoilers, though. But it's mostly just gushing and love. |

The thing about Ghost is that it had a meh first act, then got amazing in the second once they introduce the third Rider, then becomes terribke by the time Takeru obtains his final form.

I've spent a lot of the last eleven episodes wondering how much better Ghost would be without, uh, Ghost. I think Specter's goals and choices are compelling, and Alain? A story about an otherworldly prince who gets framed for murder and exiled to the world he wants to conquer, but eventually grows to (I assume) love and protect? Um, YES. That is a super-compelling story, and once you add in his friendship with Specter, it's more than enough to drive a series. In the moments when I feel Takeru is at his least heroic, that's a thought I keep coming back to.

The OG Heisei era is a lot of fun. The Neo stuff had a tendency to get formulaic in a lot of places and the collectible toy gimmick has always been a major theme. The older shows tended to be less aggresively merchandise-driven and there was a lot more throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Still, I'm particularly psyched to check out Kuuga. I saw on the Wiki that it was a single Rider show? As, again, someone who came in with Ex-Aid, that sounds amazing. I literally don't know how that could work. I'm looking forward to seeing all the early ideas, the aborted directions, what the franchise was like before the formula.

My entry into the Kamen Rider franchise was Ex-Aid: I am okay with "merchandise-driven"! If anything, I love the franchise for how toyetic and showroom-esque it can get at times.

I would be lying if I said I didn't feel like that was a bit of a plus. I'm loving these shows, but, like, Drive. 48 episodes, 3 theatrical movies, 1 D-Video sequel to one of the theatrical movies, 3 epilogue movies, a Sentai crossover, 5 different TV-kun things, Kamen Rider Brain, a smattering of music videos and weird miscellany... y'all, FOR REAL. A series that's "only" 49 episodes sounds like a vacation.
