I had a feeling with the second season only being 6 episodes that they would have another set of 6-7 episodes to properly close the series out as the final season and constitute a full one-cour anime season.
And in the true spirit of the original Ultraman the final boss is Zetton. |

Honestly, I've lost interest in this portion of the franchise entirely. Ultraman, "but armor" as a sequel to the OG series was a great concept, I give them that. And they got the right artists together to pull it off for sure, the "Linebarrels of Iron"-aesthetic looks amazing.
But the manga just kept dragging on without any proper direction so I dropped that, then the anime started to do its own thing which was exciting but all it amounted up to was a watered down version of the manga. A very poorly done one at that. And the visuals are still very much terrible to look at. And then couple all that with the fact that this sub-franchise now exists for more than 10 years, without doing anyone invigorating, refreshing, or entirely new. It has outlived its welcome IMO, and only exists so they can design armor variants of established Ultraman-characters to sell as merchandise. Or cash in on people with that mobile game which apparently still exists? So yeah, not sad to see this end, I personally won’t bother watching Season 3. |

Just finished Season 2, but I knew this was coming. This season was admittedly better than Season 1, but still makes changes that don't work nearly as well as they do in the Manga. I appreciate more Ultra series references and the sound effects, but maybe they could have squeezed in another episode or two to let the story flow better.
Is this style of Ultraman anywhere near the levels of traditional Ultraman? No, most certainly not. But do I like the ideas and aesthetic? Absolutely! But I do admit, I'm not exactly thrilled with the Netflix Anime (they did a better job on the subs this season) and still very much prefer the Manga, I still enjoyed this, especially Absolute Tartarus- I mean Pedan's animations. That's the thing about this series I guess, Motion Capture works well in this style, somewhat keeping to its Tokusatsu roots, and the final battle where Zoffy perfectly replicates classic Ultraman style was a joy to watch. If nothing else, we got the Ending where everybody's grooving. |
