After the latest battle, Tametomo finds that the world is stuck in a time loop- and he is the only one aware of it. Can he escape without Bill Murrays' help?!

"After 41 days of airing interruption due to COVID-19, Mashin Sentai Kiramager returns with the new chapters and episodes of this year." Okay, so it looks like Tametomo Imizu/KiramaiYellow is like Naoto Takizawa/TimeFire trying to figure this groundhog day out as it was 20 years ago. Remember Mirai Sentai TimeRanger Case File 35 "Tomorrow Isn't Coming" on October 22, 2000? Well, it happens again this 2020! So, are there any other Super Sentai references aside from this? Hope and pray that the actors, the actresses, the filming crew and staff will not be affected by COVID-19, unlike what happened to Rio Komiya 2 months ago. And like what Pikotaro (Muryou Hakataminami) said, "Pray for People And Peace".

Kiramager is back? I'm really excited.
I wonder if the delay will impact the overall length of the series? On the one hand, I'm loving it and want as many episodes as possible. On the other...it'd be kind of nice to have a 40-ish episode series as a change of pace.

Trivia I found were when Tametomo was lunged into the air by Shovellow, Shovellow would shout catch phrases from Hurricanger and Ninninger and during one of those lunges Tametomo did a Hurricanger jumping pose at one point. Also I could have sworn I heard the monster say Que bom when he was in medieval armor.

I was hoping for one more Sayo story to round off this second round character-focused episodes before introducing silver, but she was prominent in Shiguru and it looks like she'll be involved in the events regarding Silver's introduction, so I guess it's fine. I'd say the one positive from all those Mashin-talk episodes (which actually had some funny moments in of themselves) is that it made it feel like we've been with our cast longer before bringing in a new guy.
This episode was great because utterly destroying your opponent over and over again until they get sick of it is exactly how how my days playing fighting games went (I was always on the receiving end, though...) |

Is Tekken sponsoring Kiramager? They got quite a product placement there.
Interesting minimalist approach to filming the episode. With work restrictions they managed to just shoot the same scenes with minor differences. Sena, Shiguru and Saya only appeared in the base, that surely didn't take more than a day to shoot. Juuru had that one scene in the bridge and they only had one location for the fight scene. Even the Mech battle was short. Tametomo was the only one in multiple locations but even then there were only three of them. Wonder how they'll film the next episodes.

...and we're back! Kiramager was in an extra rough spot thanks to the hiatus, considering it only had 10(+1) episodes to work with, but amazingly, I think it managed to weather the clip show apocalypse far better than Zero-One did, thanks to a combination of a surprisingly large amount of cut scenes to slip in there, and an extremely talented cast of voice actors. Those Kira-Talk specials were genuinely quite fun!
But that's thankfully in the past now, and we can stop reliving the same events over and over again to move on to a brand new story about... Tametomo reliving the same events over and over again. Huh. I know I'm not the first to make this observation, but it's a heck of a coincidence that this is the plot we came back to. Cruel twists of fate aside, this is an episode about Tametomo, which pretty much immediately guarantees I'm going to love it. Spoiler alert: I loved it! Somewhat out of the blue, this one is written by Tete Inoue, who is basically a complete enigma to me, and I believe was last seen writing a few episodes of Kyuranger? If I have my facts straight? I feel like it's worth pointing out when Arakawa isn't at the helm of an episode, but in this case, there's not much I can say from there. It's an episode of Kiramager, and it's not exceptional, but it's also quite good and certainly hits the spot after so long without a new episode. These kind of time loop plots can get sluggish and frustrating when not handled properly, but this episode doesn't waste any time moving from beat to beat. Ironically given the entire concept, there's a great sense of progression to the story, with Tametomo going through the usual motions a lot quicker than I'd expect, which is a great show of characterization. Of course a strategically minded guy like him is going to figure out what's happening (more-or-less) right away, and of course he's going to immediately try all the obvious solutions to the dilemma. He's 75% of the way through the normal plot beats of this premise by only halfway through the runtime. The man knows his speedrunning strats! And that leaves the rest of the episode to mix things up just enough to feel like something more unique and creative, and the solution Tametomo eventually hits on is both hilarious and cool, with him forcing the monster into a stalemate and eventually depression by ruining the entire point of resetting time through taking the quickest, most effective possible course of action to defeat him in each loop. Overall, it's nothing too complicated, but the simplicity probably works in the episode's favor. It eschews focus on just about anything that isn't Tametomo and the monster, with even Juuru only managing one quick bit of motivational speechifying. As part of the normal run of the show, I might be saying it's just okay, but considering how starving I've been for some Kiramager lately, I think an episode that's just okay is a great thing to have. And again, there's a certain synergy here between the real life context of this episode and its plot centered around managing to finally break free of a vicious cycle of repetition, so that kinda adds something too.

What a nice episode to get back into this show. I really liked the Groundhog Day theme of this episode, and the focus on Tametomo. The Marrskman in this one was great, I kinda felt bad for him at the end.
But seriously guys, at this point we can probably agree that Tekken 7 is the most featured videogame in Tokusatsu, right? |
