My Juspion SHF just came in. Got him from Mandarake for like 5.5k yen. He's a pretty cool guy with some nice transparent parts. |

I think after Accel my next Figuarts purchases will be Renewal Black and SS Rising Mighty Kuuga. I've never seen Kuuga and don't really plan to, but I love his forms and Rising Mighty especially. Black is one of my favourite Riders period.
But man, Figuarts are expensive. |

Well after fiddling with my SRC Gokai Oh I tried fiddling with my Agito Burning Figuarts, I can get them to stand. Now I might feel more inclined to get these things lol. Shame I missed Dangerous Zombie

Renewal Black is good looking but at the time the reissue came around (which was my first chance to get the figure at retail) Shinkocchou Seihou was already a thing so I decided to play the long game and wait for the eventual SS version.
I love Black so I didn't want to settle for a figure that they can, and eventually will, improve on. |

Well that's why I'm finally getting it now, because I don't know that an SS could bring to the table over Renewal Black unless it's just retooled to have SS-style hips. It's really damn good, bordering on perfect, and does the whole SS thing of placing accuracy and realistic proportions first. Vangelus' review really sold me on it.
I'm also really excited for Kuuga, as I've always loved the suit (Specifically Rising Mighty's added gold trim and anklet which just gives it a bit more character and regality) but never really dug the original skinny Figuarts. But looking up reviews I was floored by the finish. I mean, I shouldn't be, but even after Hibiki, W, Skull, and now Accel who arrived Monday, Shinkocco's quality still impresses me to no end. Again, they could only be better if these were the figures we got first all those years ago, but that's like brining in causality and paradoxes and shit. |

The proportions don't do it for me and the head is just not right looking. At the time they probably couldn't do better especially with the antennas and stuff, but looking at the Rider 1 they delivered last month... they have the technology now.
It may take a couple of years but I can wait. Not saying you shouldn't buy Renewal Black now, if you like it and can get it then go for it, I personally am not satisfied with it and feel patient enough to see what lies ahead. |

I dunno, obviously the show helmet has sharper details, but it looks pretty accurate to me. (going off of Google images) Aside from the antennae obviously not being as thin, the line of ridges that comprise the "mouth" seems just a tab more rounded on the Renewal than the slightly more square arrangement on the show helmet. But that's the very definition of slightly. Otherwise the shapes all look spot-on.
As for proportions, I can certainly see your issue. The Renewal, while noticeably bulkier than the original, is still much slimmer than the TV show costume. That said, SS figures are also slimmer but not to Black's degree. (Black seems about in between an old Figuart and SS as far as relative/accurate bulk is concerned) But again, this seems like a very minor quibble. Then again, it's also a gift so maybe I'm less critical. (then again I've always been highly critical of Figuarts) But it looks like maybe a half-step behind SS. Even if I was paying he's around the $30 mark if you look, which I guess makes him an easier pill to swallow in terms of inaccuracies compared to an often $50-60 SS Figuart. |

I picked up Orb Origin and Specium Zeperion 2 weeks ago and I love the colors on Specium Zeperion a lot more that I imagined. My Orb Origin has some minor paint missing (the red V just off his navel) but a touch of red paint fixed it for me. I wish the sword did have a rotating cover to cover up parts of the symbols not in use if you are pretending on summoning different powers.
I might complete all the Orb forms seeing as there are only maybe 4-5 more (for now). But I really hope to see a Figuarts Ultraman Zero (and Zero Beyond) soon especially with Belial coming out. |
