Another great episode. It's really interesting to see how the coin has flipped and now Tsukuyomi is convinced Sougo must be destroyed whereas Geiz is more willing to just watch over him.
The action in this episode was fantastic. Zi-O II continues to be badass and there is a great contrast between the organic Another Kikai and the mechanical Kamen Rider Kikai that makes the action scenes very exciting. And of course, the plot development is interesting as well. I guess Sougo has the power to visit the future when he falls asleep, which he first did during the Shinobi Arc. The post-apocalyptic future is an interesting setting and it was odd to see a Kamen Rider fight what looks to be elderly people out of context. Makina himself is a great character, and him taking care of kids and the way he dresses just feels so classic. Definitely a throw-back and I love it. I wonder if Wool will meet his end next episode? Schwarz turning on him was surprising, and Aura clearly is not taking any of it. Though I hope they explain where the mask itself came from. |

Kamen Rider Kikai looks cool and badass. I really love him!
I still wondering who is created Another Kikai? Maybe Another Kikai is created by new Time Jacker? In my opinion, The Earth in 2121 looks worse than when the Earth are ruled by Oma Zi-O in 2068.... It seems 95% Human Population in 2121 are already killed...... I hope Kamen Rider Kikai's Dystopian world setting will be become inspiration for future Kamen Rider Series..... Anyone defending the writing again? What's up with tsuki and Geiz reversing roles/personalities? Who wrote this episode? Every single week we get the same we should befriend/watch or kill him. Other than that kikaider is the most interesting riders and I guess revive will be coming soon.

I agree. Tsukuyomi just suddenly on the "let's kill Sougo" team came out of left field. Sure, the end of the previous episode really set up doubts with Tsukuyomi but it suddenly comes out of nowhere with this episode.

I don't know if it's appropriate to say both that the last episode set it up but also that it came out of nowhere. To me it makes enough sense, that she'd been in denial for 20 episodes and with Zi-O II finally realized "wait, this guy killed my dad, shiiiiiiiiiiiit." It makes sense, in the abstract, but at the same time I agree that the escalation from "I trust completely that you won't become OmaZi-O" to "We gotta kill him, he's OmaZi-O" isn't portrayed realistically. The issue more comes from the fact that he didn't actually really do anything bad last episode that would convince her he does have the capacity to be evil, it just shows he has the capacity to have the same powers. Zi-O II simply had too heroic a debut.

Hey everyone, guess what time it is!
Time for Sougo to get serious about studying. At this rate, he is in danger of flunking his exams most heinously. Let's put aside the cheap jokes for a second, though. The episode itself already has that covered with the multiple Kikaider puns. Of course, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy those. I also supremely enjoyed this episode, but it's a perfect example of the duality this show has to me. On one hand, I'm glued to the screen, loving every minute, and totally pumped to see what happens next, yet on the other, I also feel far more critical of it than I usually am of Rider, and there's a few things that just don't seem up to snuff no matter how I slice it. Namely, the show is coming dangerously close to making me straight up hate Tsukuyomi. She's already currently tied with Lame!Woz as my least favorite character in Zi-O, due to being a huge step back after a string of really really good female leads in Rider. She's essentially a boring plank of wood who only exists as a tool to move other characters along in their plotlines, but this is taking it to the next level. Not only does this episode show exactly what I'm talking about by emphasizing her trying to get Geiz to pal around with Lame!Woz more than it emphasizes her decision to team up with Lame!Woz, but I mean, she teamed up with Lame!Woz! Tsukuyomi betraying her faith in Sougo like this isn't any kind of deal breaker to me, as it's dramatically interesting, and I think last week did a reasonable job setting it up, but the fact that she immediately runs off to the most shady dude in the whole show is highly questionable. Maybe her logic is that if Sougo seems nice but turns out to be bad, Lame!Woz will turn out to be good, because he's a jerk? I don't know, but at any rate, I'm pretty bummed the first time I ever had something to talk about with Tsukuyomi turned out to be this negative. Mind you, I'm pretty sure things will be back to status quo here soon enough, but even then, she'll still have all those other problems. Back to positive thinking. I loved everything else here. I loved how Sougo's prophetic dreams are now an established character trait. I loved how Shimoyama remembered our average high schooler should logically be in school. I loved the comedy bit with Geiz being unable to decide whether or not that's important. I loved how Kikai got the best world building of the Future Riders to the point of the story playing out like a backdoor pilot. I loved that the Time Jackers were mildly interesting for once. And finally I loved the lack of what I guess would logically be called Zi-O I, now. I'm usually the guy begging for shows to keep default forms around from start to finish (and I mean like, once per episode bare minimum), but in this case I'm rooting for the exact opposite. If Zi-O II is supposed to be the next step in Sougo's evolution towards Oma Zi-O, then he should be using it constantly. Especially when it's blatantly way stronger (and cooler!) than anything else he has. I only saw Zi-O II in the preview for next week, so I'm actually letting myself get my hopes up here. I know it's sad for all those Ride Armors, and I'll miss them, but we've moved on. Maybe have something crazy like Sougo teaming up with his past self as an excuse to shill them some more, I don't know. The point is, I've become extremely fond of Zi-O II in a short amount of time.

So people here complaining about Tsukuyomi, and the writing.
" motions towards White Woz " Let us not forget this bugger, and his little book, I would not be surprised if this is why Tsukuyomi has changed, but at the same time it might be something else as well. But for now this episode is quite interesting, and there is some pretty great use of the time jackers for once. |

What a fantastic episode. First of all: The Future Riders are the best thing since sliced bread and I love them all, but Kikai goes beyond what even Shinobi and Quiz did. They created a perfect, interesting world for him, gave it a fitting, charming Showa-look which ties into the history of the future and then round it all up with a fantastic Rider. Kikai rules. Shinobi had the best suit and powers, Quiz was the most developed character, but Kikai is the one I can immediately see carrying a 45+ episode show on his own.
His world, character arc and powers are so Rider-like it’s almost like he was a Showa Rider that never came to be. I adore him already. But what makes this episode great is that the Zi-O frame that surrounds the Kikai parts was enjoyable as hell. Sougo’s comedy was on point this time, I laughed out loud a couple of times, and the action was exceptionally well executed even for a show which already does well in that department. Plus, Swartz turning on Uhr is a nice twist that makes sense but could turn the balance between the Time Jackers and their enemies substantially, at least they hint that Houra will not tolerate that betrayal. The only thing I didn’t like, and that started last episode, was how Tsukuyomi’s character turned around 180° for no fathomable reason. She went from "I have no doubts about Sougo" to "Let’s kill that sucker" in 5 seconds and it doesn’t work for me. I get that she would become doubtful after Sougo openly shouted things like "I accept the Darkness" but she should be bright enough to understand the context. Plus, she is the kind of character who would act carefully and slowly, I feel like giving her a short arc of doubt before she goes radical like this would’ve been better. She acts like Geiz would or rather, did, a few episodes ago. Meanwhile Geiz acts like Tsukuyomi now? If there’s anything I don’t like about Zi-O as a show it’s how Geiz and Tsukuyomi struggle between trusting Sougo and trying to kill him. It’s not a bad idea, but I think the execution is lacking. I do hope it's just a scheme White Woz is playing but with the track record of this show I kinda doubt it. Bottom line: Kikai rules, I still like this show, but I think it could be better. |
