The KyuRangers must unlock a powerful new KyuTama, that can only be located if all 12 Rangers act as one. But Kotaro is distracted by his emotions, and a surprising new appearance...

Kotaro's mother is played by Mizuho Hata who was the cat girl Miyu in Boukenger episode 38.

Is Vice-Shogun, strongest rank only under Shogun
Bit the dust within 4 episode, and the debut episode only have a few seconds of him, which is even sooner than Edridrone, Ikagen, Scorpio or even Madako's first death. Speaking of Madako, you get to re-experience all of her previous personality with a new one this ep. Pretty wild. Akanbe's body is a triceratop's head, with 2 of the horns on... those parts of her chest... |

I loved this episode but I also feel it was just a couple steps away from being as great as it could've been. Namely, that really should've been Stinger and not Tsurugi talking to Kotarou, right?
That being said, Kotarou himself is great, it was cool seeing everyone together, especially the fairly unique take on the giant robot fight (Tsurugi's a natural leader apparently), and they managed to get at least a bit of focus on just about everyone. Stuff as slick as foreshadowing the next episode with Naga is why stuff like Stinger not being the one giving Kotarou a pep talk bothers me. There's been some goofs here and there (*cough*Scorpio's death*cough*), but Kyuranger has very solid structure on a level I don't always see in Sentai. It generally feels extremely well planned out.

This was a solid episode. We had all 12 rangers working together to solve a problem. We had character development for Kotaro. We had an amazing mecha fight with all the rangers. Kyuranger is halfway done so I hope the second half is even better.

It was okay. The concept wasn't really new as I have seen that particular setup about a dozen times in multiple shows, and I think this one, in particular, suffers from the fact that they can't give everyone a solid encounter. Which means some are rushed (Stinger vs. Scorpio) while others are just plain awful. I mean, nothing against some attempts at comedy, but Garu had his entire species die and he faces the disguised version of himself in women's clothes? Same with Raptor really, what a disappointment.
And I had to go back and check about Hammy, I legitimately forgot that they chose that Loch Ness monster for her to fight. Why? I don't know. If they had to choose something from that episode shouldn't it have been the girl she identified with? Others were well done but also suffered from the lack of time. Like, Champ sees the Professor again! For five seconds, then he's attacked by random Jarkmatter guys. Why. Even Tsurugi had a great encounter, but we saw nothing about it. They could go back to it next episode but I don't expect them to. Kotaro was the only one who got the focus he deserved, the rest was just not good enough. This should've been a two-parter really, that way they could at least give everyone a minute or two more. The mecha-fight was awfully forced in a way I hate Sentai for, I'd rather have more time with the characters than the bad guy just growing big again. That being said, the mecha was finally boarded by all Kyurangers, I actually expected them to stick with just Lucky and Tsurugi because why not. Anyway, it's Kyuranger, I will probably die of boredom before this show is over but at least this wasn't all too terrible. |

All the feels, all the shrugs. That's pretty much how I defined this weeks episode. Koutaro is a gem, and unfortunately I'm already bored by Tsurugi. Points to the Commander for playing sake and chill when things are on the wire.

So we had a female tentacle monster all over Hammy. I wonder if the internet will try to make MadakoxHammy a thing.

Kotaro got some good development, but man would it have been nice to spend some more time with some of those other encounters. Trusugi in particular, but even Shou would have been interesting. Nevermind Champ encountering the professor..
