Is there a way to do a poll in these forums?
I am debating whether I should paint Kuuga's armor to make it more metallic like its screen appearance.

I would really like to to some paiting but it seems to me same I would need a lot of gundam marker to be able to do one competely. Does it worth to buy only some color (red, green, blue, silver, black, white and an eraser for example) ? Sure it seems easy to undo what you paint, is it really returning to the previous state ? Apart trying on an actual minipla, is there any way to practise before ? should the paint be covered with some gloss paint to protect it ? I just read today on a japanese forum that gundam marker shouldn't be used on ABS plastic as they tend to break more easily after that. Do you agree with this ? Is there ABS plastic in minipla or super minipla ? is there a way to recognise it ? (I think I read on some plastic model that some plastic parts were ABS but I wonder if it isn't for gunpla). |

In general, top coat is a good way to protect all model kits and make any toy look better. Quote:

There are a couple of ways to tell what kind of plastic it is https://www.wikihow.com/Identify-Abs-Plastic After working with a lot of kits, you can start to tell on your own. But most important, you should not use Gundam marker on joints or places of stress. There is a specific marker Gundam Marker GM22 200 that is popular for making joints look metallic- this one can break down plastic if you use too much. Any porous plastic will break down when any type of paint is introduced. This is where primer and top coats help. But again, I am only suggesting Gundam paint markers on details and small areas. I do not recommend to use them over large areas (greater than 4cm maybe?) because it won't look as clean as an airbrush.

Also may I suggest painting the silver parts on Zi-O's neck? I did so on mine and it completed the look |

I never even noticed that Zi-O's neck was silver! Is his whole neck piece just silver? I see some detail likes so I assume its just the front and back?

I didn't paint the main part of the ziku driver, but I did a slight black wash to the detailed areas. The sides I painted silver, and the ride watch I painted black. If I can figure out a way to cut a tiny template, I might place a clear film over the "screen" of the driver to give it some extra punch. It just looks so drab as it is.

For the neck, it's just the front and back section that is silver, i.e. the molded parts. Its basically the watch band continuing up from his chest up to his helmet and around to the back https://i.pinimg.com/originals/93/4b...5ed07e597f.jpg |

Yep Tamiya black wash is what I used. A very tiny tiny bit in all the places with small ridges. I suppose I can also give it a gloss top coat and it might create a similar effect.
You were totally right about the neck! It made all the difference. I also accidentally poured out too much silver paint so I painted W's scarf. It still bothers me how static it looks, but this will do for now. Do you have any ideas what I can do to replace hit? Maybe heat formed silver vinyl?
