"The Heavy Hitters"
I am sick of the competition between these three companies. This phrase obviously can be read the wrong way. I am not really tired of the semi-healthy competitors dueling like almost gentleman to sell a product to the masses. That is business, fair enough. What I am tired of though? Certain "consumers" of these products. Now don't get me wrong, I am a total-slave to the consumerism train, and if anything I am just as bad as the next guy. However, this is a difference between me? An average gamer, and a "Consumer of Video Gaming". Because of the business plan between the three companies, it has put this weird form of pressure on the shallow minded mindset of some people. It's almost as if Mommy (Xbox) , Daddy (PlayStation), and Grandpa (Nintendo) have gotten into a little debate, and the child of this situation has either taken sides, or could not really care in the slightest. I like to say that I fall in the category of the not caring. Video games are video games. Collectively if I had the money? I would just throw it at all three, and then Uncle (Computer) Just for added measure. However, unlike me. There are "The Elitists" because, "X is better than Y because of this and that" this equation is obviously the standing point of most buyer's stand points. It's fairly common, and is expected. However, as I progress in the life span, I feel that all of the above are equal in some way. The PlayStation 3: It is a decent system, at a decent price. Though it's initial launch of it was god awful, Sony has done a good job at using a Phoenix down on this system. Even offering a great service, PlayStation Plus. Fifty bucks a year? Shit ton of free games? Online storage? Discounts? More then makes up for the goofy launch. The system even has an upgrade-able memory up to about a terabyte. What you would need that for? Who knows. But they even have "Super-Slim" units that come with half a terabyte and various bundles. The real only downside, is that it is prone to overheating, and has issues with a couple titles. -glares at Bethesda- But otherwise, it is a decent system, and who needs to play Cod Blops 2, anyways? ;D The Xbox 360: Good system indeed. Propitiatory storage which means that the chances of corrupted data are low, and lets face it. Corrupted data on a Xbox? Please bitch. It is always running a version of "Safemode". Though this system also had a terrible launch, which is famously referred to as "The Red Ring of Death" they quickly fixed this issue with the system, within a year. Otherwise, this is a pretty solid system to play offline. Online? Well... there is a couple different packages. $30 USD? I can play online for three months... I uh... What? I have to pay more money to play online? Bah. Oh, on the upside, I can pay the same $59.99 to play online... and not really receive any benefits to it either. To be fair I am really harsh on Xbox Live Gold. However, for good reason. It, like Hulu Plus is just a money grab. For money. You see, they generate income based upon your subscription, that if you look at either company the wrong way, can automatically renew. However, what you pay for is... rather lacking. (From my experience.) Though, I do have a friend that is an Xbox Elitist, whom claims he has received various discounts, and free games due to being a Xbox Live Gold member. For the two years I was a member, "I didn't get shit..." which most of my friend's who are still with this company did not receive either. But, this being said. You do get a very secure online connection on this system, as Microsoft does indeed pay for constant server maintenance. Woot! So, in some aspects it does indeed even itself out. Oh, and the Avatar system. The secret Sim-tard in me, loves this feature way to much... <3 The Nintendo Wii: Wii you like to play? Not really. Though I recently purchased this system for my other half. I have to say? I am not really that impressed with it. Though, as mentioned it is "The Grand-Daddy" of the consoles, it really does show it's age. I have mentioned recently that Nintendo is the aging senile grand-father telling the same story about a Plumber, Trainer, Space Agent Furry, Bounty Hunter, and Elf. Though, the re-imaginings do get more vivid, the stories themselves get a bit more Obscure. Suddenly all of the above are in space. Or in the trainer's case. France. This system honestly does not -do- much for me. It is a Nintendo product, I have to love it because it says "NINT EN DOOOO" thus like the drooling consumer I mentioned previously. I can and must buy it. Woe is me. The system itself? It just shows it's time very well, and unfortunately I did not do my research on this system before purchasing, or else I would not have bought a system with no backwards compatibility. But, if I wanted to play an old game? I'd just hook up my Gamecube. Problem solved. Though... I would much rather play my Gamecube anyways... This way I am not backhanded by motion controls. As if you know me. I hate motion controls like non-other. The Move? The Kinect? The Wii? All can burn in a fire. It like it's father the Power Glove, should have been buried in the sands of time. It does not work for me, and does not work in general. Being the giant blob of a man that I am, Motion controls do not work with me. Go to swing right? Swings up. Fuck it. It sucks you into this very false sense of security, luls you in, and then back-hands you because you like it. @_@ Ok, I am a bit biased. Bleh. In a nutshell though, these systems are all a bit of "Different pastes for different tastes", and well... I get a bit sick of the Fanboy-isms that follow. As even the Wii does amuse a certain crowd of people, that very much so are into the Motion Controls, or if you go the original Wii, Gamecube controller. (Grumble grumble...) I want to backhand the next person that tells me, "Screw it, i'm going to switch X." I don't care. Nobody cares. This being said, I don't think a single person does. As each of these franchises are fine franchises for different reasons, and even though I hate the Wii? I'd still keep it. Why? Because I am a true gamer. Though, I am picky as all hell these days, I still count myself as one. I don't care about my gamerscore, my trophies, badges, or acheivements. All I care about, is having fun with my game. Enjoying the story that is told in it, and telling the tales of my adventures in the land of make believe with my mates. So, when people decide that they want to compare dick sizes, by how much they played a certain game, or how much money the spent on live. All I have to say is "I do not care, no one cares.", it is not the job of any form of Customer Service, or Technical support to lick your boots. It's your job, and duty as a gamer to sit down spend your money, and enjoy yourself. Not put your blame on a company that if you truly have been loyal to all these years? You wont throw away all your hard-earned cash to "switch to the other company" for. It pisses me off to no end as a gamer, and it needs to stop. With the upcoming consoles, I really do want everyone to collectively stop the bickering between gamers to just sit back, relax and just play video games, without any variety of obtuse thinking. Because this generation? We get a new army of twelve-year old's and thus? It is a good idea to set an example. So, what are your thoughts on this?

Well based on all the news that's coming out for the X Box One, it doesn't seem like there's very much reason to get it over say the PS4 or the Wii U.
Blocking Pre owned games and fees up the ass? Yeah F that S****t. |

I agree with pretty much everything you've said. I've grown out of the whole "MY SYSTEM IS THE BEST!" attitude. I do agree that it's just different consoles for different tastes.
Like Nintendo games? Buy a Wii. Like First Person Shooters? Buy an Xbox. Like Action Games and JRPGs? Buy a PS3

but, that's not a JRPG. It's from 'Murica. I think I'll go Sony this upcoming generation, since Kingdom Hearts 3 has gotta come out on it (don't let me down Square Enix) and it's about time for a Persona 5 (which, all numbered games in the series have been Sony exlusives). I also like Jak and Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank.

I personally own all three, and whilst I am a nintendo fanboy I'm also not blinded by them. See my first home console was a PS1, back then though I wasn't exactly a serious gamer. By the time the GC/PS2 gen came around I was obviously older and had grown up with a Gameboy pretty much glued to my hand, so a GC was the natural choice.
Basically I adore nintendo for it's characters and the worlds they create, their home consoles not so much... The Wii was a fun piece of Kit and had some great games, but it definitely wasn't the best looking or best connected thing on the market. The xbox was great for this though, it offered me many games that were shared between PS3 and the 360 that the Wii lost out on (Batman games, final fantasy etc) The online was fun too until i realized what a waste of money gold membership was and that my friends only played COD. My PS3 I have only owned for 3 or 4 months, and i brought it simply because I wanted to play Ni No Kuni (having followed it since it was originally announced as a DS title). We also got a 3D TV last year so we had switch over to Blu-rays in our house, so it also doubles as that for in my room. Add in the Ps plus service that i can use for both my Vita and PS3 and it's Win Win. The problem their though is that non of sony or microsofts first party offerings really appeal to me. For me it pretty much boils down to that I will always buy a Nintendo console, but purely for the games. Part of me wishes they'd just give up the home side and focus on handhelds whilst developing home console games for someone else (kind of like Sega). The other console I will likely get based on exclusives, which with the way the market is heading I can see becoming rarer and rarer (companies want to hit the biggest markets possible, hence why EA have dropped the WiiU and Bungie is going multi) I think it's just that Nintendo seem the more personal of the three and I like that. They come across as less guys in suits that just want your money, and more like friends (for lack of a better word/clear way to express my thoughts) or at least people that care about their fans more. End of the day a good game is a good game regardless of who makes it. |

I never quite understood where the Nintendo mentality came from.
Link shows up? "It's the same Zelda game they've been making for the past 20 years." Samus shows up? "It's the same Metroid game they've been making for the past 20 years." And it's an inescapable cycle of annoyance that gets tossed around because the characters are the same. Bethesda makes Morrowind with better graphics and a new enemy? Praise the gods upon high. Retro Studios completely changes how Metroid is played? "It's the same game we've been playing for 20 years." I never understood where this came from, and it's an unfair assessment when it comes to, say, Mario, who has starred in various different genres of games, so, unless it's an FPS, all his games will just be called "A copy of a prior Mario game." I know I probably missed the entire point of the thread, but I'm just tired of "LINK'S FACE SHOWED UP IT'S JUST OCARINA AGAIN."
