I feel the reason why Ghost gets more flak is the more apparent, up front issues, while Wizard is just far more flat and bland.

Wizard doesn't get much of a pass, per-se, I think we just see more people dissing Ghost because it's more recent, and because most people's sticking point of "boring" doesn't give them much ammo against Wizard in the same way you can make an easy joke about Takeru dying again.
For the record, and this probably *is* an unpopular opinion, neither series is anywhere near the travesty people pretend them to be. Ghost has a great cast and several really good arcs, and Wizard has one of my favourite Rider endgames and fantastic designs. Neither are perfect, of course, but there's still plenty to love.

I hate Wizard in terms of the actual series. It's mostly boring, it's mostly uneventful, Haruto is extremely bland and the supporting cast outside of Beast are either uninteresting or extremely annoying. All that said...I can't fault the designs. I also can't fault the idea of entering a person's very being to purge them of self-destructive despair and how Phantoms are born from humans losing themselves and essentially dying to negative emotion. That's a really good concept. Wizard as a rider is really cool with a unique fighting style. Beast is a great secondary (even if his power-up form makes him really boring.) and despite how bleh Medusa was as a character, Phoenix and Gremlin were both very interesting. I also feel like Wizard falls into the "Better in everything but their own show" category cause every cameo role he's played in other projects has been leagues better, with Heisei Generations being one of, if not his best portrayal. Fundamentally, Ghost is the better series by a long-shot, but I can't let my dislike of Wizard blind me from when it does do something very well.

I'm not sure it's my Wizard bias speaking since Haruto is my favorite Main Rider and Wizard is my fifth favorite Rider show, but I very much disagree that Ghost is a "fundamentally" better series.
Wizard archives almost everything it sets out to do and has very few actually missteps, like, bad writing, plot holes or things like this. Each character is written very well, in my opinion Wizard's cast is absolutely fantastic, the story, as simple as it admitadly is, is written in a way that it has almost no flaws beyond, Mayu could have gotten a bit more to do and similare things. And the two parters are great, memorable and interesting as well as explore the theme of Hope wonderfully. Simplicity isn't a flaw, it's just a show that appeals to a different audience than a show like Gaim. Comparing this to a show like Ghost, which, even admitted by fans, has a plethra of issues kinda feels wrong to me. |

Come to think of it, I did not have a huge problem with Wizard as much. Although the hype for Gaim did kinda kill my enthusiasm for it at the end a bit. I did like the show more I think after Beast and his mayo shenanigans kicked in and kept me laughing.

I think Wizard is pretty fun. It isn’t as mind bogglingly good as some shows but it’s quite entertaining. It helps that I actually like the cast.I even have some kind of weird Stockholm Syndrome thing going on where I like Shunpei. Don’t ask me why.

Post-Wizard though, Shunpei's actor has become one of those young actors who has decent amount of fame and seems to be constantly busy with one thing after another.

Ghost was my first full Kamen Rider series and I absolutely loved it. The first arc and the Necrom arc were both incredible. But a lot of the characters were pretty flat and there were some pretty pointless episodes towards the end.
My unpopular opinion: Lots of people bash Ghost for having too much filler and weak characters, but there's far less of both those things in Ghost than in most Sentai. At least Ghost had something going on for most of the series, but I've watched Sentai where it took half of the season for ANYTHING to happen.

Been awhile, and I can't believe I didn't think of this one in my initial post.
The average Power Rangers season is far more entertaining than the average Sentai season. I know it's not AS MUCH of a hot take nowadays as it was about 7+ years ago when I first saw it, but I remember a ton of people telling me "Oh man, Zyuranger is so much better than MMPR! Once you see Sentai you'll throw PR in the trash!" And uh... needless to say that didn't happen. I don't hate Zyuranger by any means, but I remember reaching the end and going "Really? That's what all the hype is about?" Speaking of which, here's another to go along with it: Shout Factory's' Sentai subs are a godsend, especially compared to the subs I watched way back. Like, yeah, they have issues, but man, I'll take them over the subs I've seen of other older Sentai anyday. Hoping they end up subbing Fiveman and Turboranger someday, as I'm actually interested in watching those. I totally lost track of what Sentai they lasted subbed, actually.
