The last time Kikaider came to the US was the anime series on Adult Swim several years ago around 2006 (I think). I guess Kikaider's popularity in Hawaii help support a US release. I do remember Toei did want to release Kamen Rider: The First at Film Festivals and Cons, but that never happen. At least we are getting a superhero toku movie in the US for once.

It's not the first time. Kikaider aired in Hawaii back in the 70s and still has a cult following there. I didn't know the anime had aired on Cartoon Network, but I did know that the Hakkaider movie from the 90s got a dvd release here, too. The new movie getting a US release is surprising, but far from unprecedented.

I actually remember when cartoon network aired Kikaider: the animation. Back when that aired, I didn't know that it was based on the live action show but when I rewatched it last year (and getting into Kamen Rider last year) that's when I learned about it's origins. Can't wait for the movie to arrive here.
