Brilliant premiere. I pretty much share the sentiment that Tsuburaya can't do anything wrong at the moment, and this just continued that mindset. If I HAD to nitpick something it would be the use of a fusion gimmick again straight after Orb, but I'd really be stretching myself to consider that a real issue.
Very curious about that little prologue bit. I always love how good Ultra is with handling continuity. I've only seen Q, the original, X and Orb but I don't ever feel like I'm missing anything with the returning faces. Riku is a very likeable protagonist and the action sequences are as beautiful to watch always (love a good nighttime fight). Really looking forward to more. Also I'm finally going to get around to changing that thread title |

GUYS! GUESS WHO VOICES BELIAL!
So just saw episode 1 and boy I do have to agree this was a nice set-up for things to come. I am already psyched for episode 2. On a side note, is it just me or does the name Geed seem like a portmanteau of Gene and Seed? It fits the whole lineage and DNA concept I think.

Yep
Thing is it did not occur to me when I thought the official spelling was Xeed or Xead, but now that it has been finalized as Geed it just clicked. I feel good about this show. Also like how his eyes are like blue flames. Now give us Salaryman Papa Zero Tsuburaya!

Not to mention シード and ジード are basically the same word. It seems so obvious now! Although if we've had Ultraman X and Ultraman Geed, I eagerly await like, Ultraman 00 or something being next.

There's definitely some word play going on as well with the word 凝乎と/jitto.

Does anyone one really know the meaning of Riku's catchphrase? It's one of the few things that really scratches my head in confusion. Oh yeah, I forgot my reactions myself. It's a solid first episode but needs sub to understand most of the dialogues, especially Rem's dialogues. Comparing Riku to Gai, I would still prefer Gai but I will wait and see how they will make Riku as charming as the past Ultra heroes. On a side note, am I the really one who hates the fight in this episode? Granted, the wet and watery battle is cool but Riku's first fight was so disastrous. Really, it's even more disastrous than Chihiro's earlier battles. He only win because of using the finisher in the last second!? What the fuck is that!?

Glad to hear the positive reviews. I really look forward to seeing this after the one-week delay.

Just watched the first episode, it was amazing.
First of all, before we get into the show itself, I'm a huge fan of Belial, I like this dude a lot. Simply because he's an evil Ultraman with a kick-ass design. So when I heard that we would get a Belial-focused show with his son as the protagonist I was already on board 100%. And I admit, I was a bit afraid my high hopes would dampen the experience, especially after the last two Ultraman shows were as good as they are and the slight fear that they could lose their touch now, but after watching the first episode of Geed... this is another great show in the making. I really like the protagonist Riku, he's the sort of clumsy and friendly hero Tokusatsu features a lot but I think the actor makes it a lot more believable than some of the other characters with these traits. And to be honest, as soon as Riku switched on a Toku episode for lunch I was like "Yeah this dude is alright, he knows what's up" Can't say much about Pega yet, but I like him so far and I'm sure he will get a focus episode sooner than later. And then the monster waltzes in and they finally made the logical step-up from the Ultraman fusions and have the monster merge too, with Belial DNA as a core it seems. And it looks awesome, fantastic suit. And of course, the model work is on point as always, but we get into that later. So Riku stumbles upon the base, gets his stuff, transforms and man... the Geed suit is gorgeous. Those blue eyes with the silver, black and red body, so good. And the action is amazing. They really did their best to impress us from the very start. Battles at night are always great, but how they played with the environment and this lake, that was very cool. And then you really start to appreciate all of the model work, the miniatures are fantastic. So yeah, the action already has me drooling and from what I've seen of Solid Burning, it will only continue to blow me away. Character-wise I like them all so far, I've seen a bit more of the side characters through the promotional stuff and I think I will like them just fine. Even the ditzy agent lady. And the catchphrase of Riku is cute, I mean how he chose the name Geed. Plus, he totally borrowed the "Here we go!" - phrase from his own Toku hero, Donshine, I love it. I honestly can't wait for the "Beware the Gray Ghost"-kinda episode were Riku meets Donshine's actor. That has to happen, right? So yeah, I could go on like this for a long time, but to make it short: Episode 1 was amazing, I hope they can keep this up but I'm not a tiny bit worried about that to be honest, Ultraman is at its best for the past few years now, and it will only continue to get better! |

Oh s***, is that it?! I've been trying to figure out what the heck a "Geed" is forever now, because the whole "Jitto shitete mo dou ni mo naranee!" thing is nowhere near self-explanatory enough to be the sole reason he's called that.
Not to mention シード and ジード are basically the same word. It seems so obvious now! He has the GEnes of a Ultraman and is the seED of Belial. This is too good to be coincidence. Tsuburaya must have thought this up intentionally.
