The sofubi toys as part of the series does make it look somewhat low budget, but it also gives it a special charm. What doesn't convice me is the acting skills of Mio Miyatake (Mizuzu)
But in general I liked it, and as my first ultra series it seems like good entry point. Ps: I'm the only one that thinks Hikaru is way too tall compared to his friends? Last edited by algo448; 07-16-2013 at 08:00 PM.. |

Watched the OT sub last night. I am still really eager to see the rest of the series.
Ultraman Retsuden was a retrospective show, and as it was hosted by Ultraman Zero, was not the most serious show. I like that Ginga is continuing that trend, with a fun, slightly silly story which looks back on the history of the Ultra Series. I get the feeling that it's meant to be a light, fun, "Oh I remember that guy!" sort of show for the fans. The biggest change for me is the use of teenagers instead of adults as is typical. Gives it a feel closer to some recent Kamen Rider shows. I don't have a problem with this, though it still strikes me as odd just because of the years of history with adult characters. And man, Ginga has such a cool design. He looks fantastic.

Watched Episode 1, and absolutely enjoyed it much better than Mebius' episode 1 however that was only because of it being newer. I enjoy the toy aspect with the past villains and UltraMen that I think this series will help me get into it easier. I really love Hikaru and love the look of Ginga.

For me, the fact that the characters respond to the toys as toys is what makes them work. I compare this to shows like Goseiger, where the characters are using the exact cards which you can buy, but treat them as Deadly Serious Business. I mean, the only bit which is missing would be a scene of them buying a booster pack to get a new Rare to use against the Monster Of The Week. In this sense, Ginga makes more sense to me.

I think I like this series for the fact that it uses older villains and Ultramen, that way if kids or even grown ups see an Ultraman they like the look of or just its character in general, they know the name then and can look it up.It helps spread the word about the Ultraman series.
Also, loved episode 1.Really enjoyed the whole interaction between the Ultraman Taro and the main hero.Very interested to hear why he was able to turn into a monster first though, pretty sure it's going to eb the big plot twist mid season.

so Overtime subbed episode 1 and I decided to give it a shot.
This is my first foray into the Ultraman universe, and I enjoyed what I saw from the first episode. This is an anniversary series where the main hero turns into past characters, but unlike say Gokaiger or Decade it felt better paced. I can tell that they're really trying to cement Ginga as his own character, ignoring the fact that he's a catalyst for past Ultramen to appear. Overall, pretty interesting first episode and I might come back for more. |

Watched the second episode, and it was ok, I didn't like it very much, but it wasn't bad per se.
Honestly besides Taro and Hikaru most of the characters feel boring, however it must be because we are just starting Things of note: It's nice to see that Taro keeps some of his powers, so far Ginga has thunder and fire powers, and he finally flies! |
