Kinda inspired by the action thread of a similar title, I thought it would be fun to look at the other major leg that the franchise stands on, the drama.
Obviously it's easy to say the more humorous and light-hearted seasons fail in this regard, being that they aren't trying to pull on the heartstrings like other seasons, but even Fourze had some genuinely powerful, dramatic moments..that it often went on to make more or less meaningless, but they were still powerful moments. That said, I can't say I'd put the likes of Fourze amongst the best. No, for me personally I feel that Ryuki and Faiz have had some of the best drama of any (complete) season I've watched. Not going to go into too much detail as a lot of the really good drama from Ryuki doesn't come until late in the game, though the ongoing fighting between the riders and their growing relationships do add to the drama. Faiz on the other hand, and this is something I brought up in the "What are you watching" thread, has it almost as a major ongoing story arc/plot point, with the semi-friendship between the main cast of heroes and villains. Especially knowing that odds are it is all going to reach a breaking point. I know that in the other thread I mentioned this as something I really liked about Faiz that isn't really present in the other seasons, though thinking about that now I suppose it is similar to the interactions and relationships between Ryuki's cast. Hibiki has some strong moments as well. Gaim is another solid contender I think. W warrants mention, especially in the last couple of episodes. Wizard didn't really deliver on the drama for the most part. I think Fourze probably had better dramatic moments now that I think about it.

Wizard has the worst drama and it's all because of that damned belt. Infinity, Flame Dragon, all ruined by Shaboodie Touch to Henshin. Every dramatic moment.
Fourze had good drama, so did OOO, and W. |

Agito and W definitely have the best drama in my opinion. As far as worst goes, I don't honestly have one out of the ones I've seen.

I wanna say Blade had the best drama, because I found myself caring about Chalice's story a lot. Adding to that, Kenzaki's sacrifice and, despite being resolved incredibly early, Tachibana's story was great.

In my opinion, the best would probably be Faiz. But that's actually one of the reasons it's not one of my favorites. I realize Kamen Rider is technically a "TokuDrama" but it almost had TOO MUCH drama going on for my tastes... But maybe I'm missing the point of the question here.
Worst? For me, Decade. Because who the hell actually knows what's going on? All dramatic tension is gone once you realize the writers forgot to make it all actually lead up to something in the end. TSUKASA DIIIED!... Who cares? At that point, nobody. |

Worst I would have to say Kiva, dem love triangles kinda dragged the whole thing down.
I honestly think I stuck through it just to see what crazy shit Otoya would do next. |

Currently Gaim holds top rank for me.

555 is actually my favorite KR series because it had the best drama, and Gaim is currently a close second. The only thing preventing it from topping 555 is the pointless dancing subplot at the beginning of the series.

For worst dramas, I would have to go with Decade and Kabuto.

Best: Ryuki, Faiz, Blade and Gaim
Ryuki because the villains were so enjoyable to see in conflict with everybody. Faiz because all of the legitmate problems and conflicts were great (also helps that Faiz had really good characters). Blade because.... everyone's own desires and wills are trying to change the path for everyone else, you could see that will the wills of the Undead, Tachibana's Mutski's, Teenouji, e.t.c.. Watching Hajime become human was great, I don't fucking care what Locke says, from episode 1 to 49 his transformation and development was great. Worst: Kuuga Literally no plot until the end. And its not just about Godai not being proactive either, its about how the show focuses on boring side characters. |
