After the first 20something episodes of the series, I just... lost interest. That hasn't happened to be with a currently-airing Sentai since I started watching it. I can't even put my finger on what, exactly, it is. I found the sparkle theme to be uninspiring, ToQger did the imagination thing bettter, the villains were startlingly dull, and the few things it did to distinguish itself from prior Sentai just sort of faded into the background.
I didn't even make a conscious choice to stop watching it so much as I just have zero motivation to watch another episode. Since it feels weird to ditch a Sentai (particularly since I made it all the way through Ninninger somehow), I'm curious as to whether the show has significantly improved. So my question is this: if I wasn't enjoying the show up through episode 24, would I be likely to enjoy the episodes that have aired since? |

If you didn't even find the Mabusheena curse arc interesting, then I'm not sure what else the show could do for you. If you don't care about the characters, it doesn't really matter how good the story is. Sadly, maybe Kiramager just isn't your thing. Personally, I'm definitely enjoying it and I think it has a lot of unique morals, but you shouldn't feel obliged to keep watching if you don't have the motivation. It's not like it's going to go anywhere if you change your mind. I went through the same thing with Kyuranger and LupinPatren, where I had to take a break and come back after a few months and I was able to finish them and find something I like about them. I never came back to ToQGer though. So maybe just leave Kiramager alone for a while and come back later, or not. Your choice.

The Imagination aspect is as big of a central theme as it was in ToQger.
I like Kiramager because it doesn't feel overly focused on Red. There is a very good team dynamic that feels fresh. That being said, you got all the way to episode 24- don't force it. If you don't like it, you don't like it. Go with what you know. Even if the last half is mind-blowingly amazing, it would have to be incredible to make up for a first half that you found boring.

This is just my impression as someone who adores Kiramager, but I feel like it's been a pretty steady level of quality throughout. Episode 20 is even still my personal favorite of the whole series.
With the question you're asking, I think the most relevant thing to tell you is that it hasn't made any huge changes in style or structure since the first half. If you didn't vibe with what it was doing to begin with, I don't think anything has happened that will change your mind for you. Although it is worth noting they added a new major villain in the mid 20's who did a lot to spice up the bad guys' overall charisma. I second the notion that the best thing to do is just not beating yourself up about dropping it and coming back if/when you feel the motivation to. Watching a show because the mood strikes, rather than out of a sense of obligation, is almost always going to result in a better time for the viewer.

Fish Sandwich is probably right, and the episode-by-episode breakdown of the series by Fish will always be a standout in and of itself!
I've started getting back into the show and it's fun for what it is. I get the feeling that it'll always be better to go in looking for something fun and wild, and then realizing that there is something a little extra when the show gives you something to not only think about on occasion, but when it flips the script with established Sentai tropes! Am I a little tired of Juuru's exaggerated sense of inspiration when he starts to draw? More or less cause it definitely wears thin, but it also fits the character at times that reversing that might come off as a disservice. I also see good things coming down the line after Ep. 20 (which is the last episode I saw up to this point): - Many seem to like Yodon General Yodonna. - A friend on Facebook posted something related to the battles in Ep. 32-33 which looked wild and interesting. - Mashin Zabyun and Grateful Phoenix feel like designs I need to see. There is a part of me that feels like this is a sense of obligation because that same part knows the only way to truly judge a show's worth and what it can do for me and Sentai in general is to see it for myself. Reading a review or someone's opinion is one thing, but not the only thing. Bare in mind that I'm in a weird frame of mind these days, so take all of this with a grain of salt. Your feelings are your own. Last edited by TokuKnight89; 01-04-2021 at 07:51 PM.. |

Thanks for the feedback, folks! I know Sentai is all a matter of taste; I know I loved some Sentai that a lot of forum posters loathed.
Other than the glitter theme, I can't even put my finger on exactly what about this show isn't scratching my Sentai itch. It's put some effort into defying a couple of Sentai format tropes. I really don't care for the toys, but the show isn't as strangled-by-the-toys as Kamen Rider Saber, and I'm still watching that... for now, at least. (Maybe the bigger mystery is why I'm still watching that after its recent game of hopscotch with a shark.) Following up on Tokuknight89's last thought, I'm aware that the pandemic may have altered my perception of the show. I've noticed that since it began, I've had a hard time sticking with TV series in general. (I'm sorry, half a dozen good TV shows.) It's possible that when I'm no longer completely isolated, I might find myself a little more receptive to what the show has to offer. Regardless, I'm glad many of you sound like you're enjoying it! |

So far my verdict is that Kiramager is a nice back-to-basics attempt with nice art direction and a decent story with likeable characters. And while I am skeptical of the toy sales regardless it is a good sentai show that I would recommend as a entry show from recent.

I think it's a fun kids' show, if I'm honest, and if you don't ask too much of it, you'll find that it actually has a lot to offer. Just don't start re-watching expecting it to be have like Jetman level narrative development or something. |
