They will probably find Rita on the Moon in the second movie. If they do defeat her for good, I would like to see Rita sealed away and exiled to space by the Rangers which was one of the original ending to MMPR from what I can remember (And the ending the Zyuranger as well).

My issue with that wasn't that she did it, as it made her realize she was a bitch, but what Kim got afterwards is pretty fair. Then the girl's car gets destroyed in the climax "That's what you get" Er, Kimmy? She only acted like that to you because SHE TRUSTED YOU WITH SOMETHING VERY PRIVATE AND YOU LEAKED IT FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES

Trust me, I'm 19 and have a 16 year old hellspawn sibling, but Kimberly did something which is a nono and had to face the consequences. She doesn't GET to have a snarky remark after the car of her ex friends gets totalled. It's a trope called 'Unintentionally Unsympathetic'

Just got back from the movie and..... I liked it loved it even. It was everything it needed to be which was a fun power rangers movie. It wasn't LOTR or Star wars but here's thing; it never needed to be it just needed to be a fun moive about 5 teens who become the power rangers. When the classic theme hit oh man the smile on my face. I also liked they didn't kill Rita off as she was one of the big highlights of the film. One Easter egg I think I spotted was Billy's van: was it just me or was it the same color as the Rad Bug?

I saw the movie yesterday and it just blew me away. I was really invested with the characters. I did see some of the changes coming and for what they were I enjoyed them. I thought having Zordon and Rita be former rangers makes a lot of sense in this new narrative. It explains why Rita has a power coin and why Zordon is trapped in a wall. I also like the Zeo Crystal playing a huge role in this film.
The Breakfast Club vibe was a nice touch. It really helped ground these characters and made them very likable. Plus Trini and Billy were handled gracefully which I greatly admired. The film did have a hard time trying to find it's footing at times. Sometimes it wanted to be a John Hughes style film, while at times it wanted to be a horror film. Then it went full cheese at the climax which I enjoyed every minute of it. I just wish there would have been more to the climax. I never really cared for the designs but they have grown on me. I still don't care for Goldar but it makes sense in the context of the film. And I think the reason they cut the combining part was to distance itself from Transformers and be its own thing. Which I respect. Overall I had a lot of fun with this movie and I can't wait for the sequels. Hopefully the designs improve and they learn to carry the story with them in suits for longer periods of time. |

I also noticed that the zords seemed to be possibly sentient. A possible Easter Egg to Zyuranger.

Just got back and oh man was I right to be excited. While I did have my doubts there at the end as soon as I saw Zordon crawling through the mud and watching his fellow ranger die I just knew something was coming. The whole breakfast club feel was really enjoyable and I'm glad they did it as it allowed us to actually care about the rangers as people not just remembering what they used to be. Seeing that each of the characters has something they struggle with is great to me as it reminds me of how being a teenager was for me. Jason and his daddy issues was handled well and reminded me a lot of my own story with my dad. Zach had a touching issue with his mom being sick and I enjoyed that he changed from a wild child into someone what recognized that he needed his friends. Trini coming to grips with being a lesbian was handled really well as it wasn't so much that she was only just realizing it as it seemed like she knew and was struggling with how to tell her family. Billy's autism was an amazingly well done thing as to a kid its a throw away line and he just seems like that weird kid in the class but to everyone who knows better its a really great thing to see everyone caring so much about him and helping him when they can. Kimberly had her issue and that was about it. She screwed up royally and is paying the price her issue was learning to realize that she did screw up and she can either let herself live with it or she can move on and learn from it. As for the rest of the film it was awesome. I missed the Mariner Bay and Reefside reference but my friend and I lost our minds hearing that old movie theme over that zord sequence and we both agree that it should have continued longer. The zords and suits have grown on me and I have to say the JDF and Amy Jo cameo made me mark out so hard the family behind me laughed and the dad gave me a high five for not caring about how people saw me. Honestly though the movie was good while it did have its flaws. a lack of action while needed and understandable hurt a bit and Goldar honestly felt forced and was beyond stupid. The car chase at the beginning while good and expository was shot really bad that whole spinning camera thing made me dizzy really quickly. The megazord while I still don't care for its design has started to grow on me a bit. The lack of a true morph was irksome but I was pleased hearing Jason say "It's Morphin Time". Rita, Jason, and Alpha stole the show for me Elizabeth Banks did a phenomenal job and my friend who had avoided all the trailers so as to avoid his pessimistic attitude looked to me and said. "Dude when you said she looked horrific you never said she was going to be so terrifying." Overall I would gladly recommend this to anyone who had seen the show or even to anyone who might have been curious about it it is a really good movie.

I hope they say "It's Morphin' Time" more in the sequels. Give us the old morphing sequence!
Plus who would play the Tommy in the movie? And how do you picture its role? |
