Firefly? And please don't say it's because he glows, because I could list a lot of things that glow, that aren't fireflies. >.>

I can see why people think that. The colors of red, black and yellow are pretty prevalent in fireflies. Add that to the way that fireflies have enormous round eyes and antennae, akin to Faiz's helmet, and it becomes a little easier to see. If you really want to stretch, you could say that the names both start with that "fie" sound.

It also doesn't help that insect motifs are a staple of Kamen Rider, the shark fangs aren't prevalent (I never noticed them in the design until someone pointed them out to me), and, in all honesty, it's not very shark-y. The fin and teeth are pretty much it (And even then, they split the fin in two to make it resemble antennae).

Actually, Kiva is based off of a bat, a vampire and a Jack-O-Lantern

Hell, Agito and Ryuki are dragons, Hibiki is an oni, and Den-O is a freaking train. The difference is: Faiz's design doesn't lend itself to a shark. His head crest (Which usually in the design of the character's horn/antennae when based on a bug) is supposed to resemble a shark's fin, but they split it in two, making it more of a match for bug antennae. His mouth plate (Which features the teeth) has no real indicator that they're there. There are grooves in the mouth plate, but unless there's a close up shot and the viewer is looking for them, no one would see them (Which is why no one thought Faiz was a shark until the Den-O OOO Net movie shorts, which explained this last year). Faiz's comparison to a firefly was a stretch, but that was only because he didn't really look like anything else. |
