I think Liveman is a better example of how great classic sentai was, personally, for me. Jetman is "fine" but the hype proceeds it, other times I think the hype utterly blinds people toward it.
Jetman is a perfectly average series ultimately, whether you take into account the context, age of it etc whereas Liveman is legitimately great.

Counter to that, while I enjoy Liveman, I've always felt it was rather boring by comparison. Jetman just had some magic to the casting that I really enjoyed. Gai is just such a likable Bastard too. Really Kaori is the one major fault I had with the show. She's just plain bothersome.

I still wanted to spackle in those damn holes in her cheeks, though. |

Kaori wasn't that bad in all fairness. Well I suppose her voice could get a little annoying at time.

Kaori isn't really very bad at all in my watch. Yeah, her dimples are on some next level shit, but as a character, she's really not that bad.

I finished up Gokaiger a while back. I was watching it with friends and were pretty much breezing through episodes which is why I didn't keep a log of it here. At any rate it was pretty enjoyable. I had a lot to say but I've forgotten it over the course of putting this review off for a while, but here's what I can remember.
The Megaranger tribute. It was okay, but my real reason for mentioning it is because I really wanted to see what the Megarangers' great power was...but they didn't reveal it till near the end! And they only used it once! It seemed pretty useful to me! The Kakuranger tirbute. Definitely didn't know the Kakuranger version of Ninjor was voiced by Franky! That's fucking awesome. And I guess there's a little One Piece, reference in there, unintentional or not! Gokai Christmas...what? How...Why does the Gokai Cellular even have a Merry Chistmas option?! Then again...it was handed to Gai by some ghosts so why not? The final showdown with Basco was pretty cool. Special mention goes to THAT maneuver Marvelous pulled off. Holy shit.. The entire episode was pretty intense as a whole. Basco was more threatening than the lot of the Zangyack Empire honestly. Kinda felt bad for Damaras. Held back by being assigned to protect an idiot prince, punished for his failures by the emperor, etc, etc. The Gokaiger villains weren't the most developed villains, but they had enough development that I missed 'em when they kicked the bucket. Same goes for Insarn (who the Emperor and his cronies didn't give one shit about) and especially Barizorg. His duel with Joe was pretty awesome. The Emperor certainly looked more threatening and WAS more of a threat than his son, though his track record on Earth isn't too impressive. That red henchmen of his annoyed the shit out of me with his garbly voice though. The final battle against the emperor was pretty badass too. The greatest treasure in the universe was pretty interesting. I can see why it'd be fucking bad if Basco got a hold of it. Still...they could've used it for something else, rather than destroying it. That said, it is pretty Gokaiger-y to decide not to do something the easy way and achieve it on your own terms. All in all, it was a pretty fun watch. I'm gonna miss those pirates. Oh and the bit where Doc morphs into Sentai Sentinel Knight's sword form and Joe wields him was pretty hilarious. I also watched a couple movies! First up was Gokaiger vs Gavan! It was pretty fun honestly. I like old school Gavan. A few things though. I honestly forgot they never killed the older Sneak brother. Weird place to bring him back! and he has a sister?! Wha.... JEALOUSHITTO?! Of all the weird cameos...Man I bet his wife misses him........Anyway! The jail for reformed Sentai villains. Not just reformed Zangyack officers, but Sentai villains in general guess Zangyack just holds a grudge against all who allied with the side of good. I can't speak for most of the characters there as I haven't seen much Sentai, though I definitely recognize most of them from their Power Rangers counterparts, but....why is Bae there? He wasn't even a villain! I mean...you COULD say...he would barely hurt a fly. Heh heh... And lastly old school Gavan was pretty cool. Didn't expect him to have any backstory with Marvelous but that's kind of awesome. I like how his clone was called BOOTLEG Gavan, the most hilarious villain name ever. His actor is pretty popular I take it, since he was Denji Blue and Battle Kenya...but uh...someone help me figure this out...at the end. Why uh...why did that Sentai god or whatever command them to transform for the kids who'd never seen them onscreen together. No one questioned it! THAT WAS WEIRD! Oh and cool Go-busters cameo. Brief though. And finally...Super Hero Taisen. Eh I'll save that one for my next post, this one's long as it is. |

Gokaiger 31.
This episode appealed to me as the Zeo designs are nostalgic but I also remember fuck all about the show, so keeping that in mind, I was impressed by how well the designs and weapons had aged. I mean sure the effects get updated, but the core ideas and visuals are entirely intact. I guess it shows the strength of how great a simple design can be when done well. How is OhRanger as a show, and has it been subbed? Plus, although his appearances are inconsistent and nonsensical any fight with Basco and his armies are always fun - especially now it turns out the dude turns into a friggin demon pirate thing and UTTERLY FUCKS UP THE GOKAIGER. Although I wonder how many people were FURIOUS that this dude is killing off Rangers, OFF SCREEN. The fuck man?!
