no bonne lecture from tassel this week :'D
Calibur face was hidden as expected from the preview so it might not be kento's father (which makes me sad because I want this actor to be a "real" appointed rider in a series and not just riotrooper or stuff). For drama sake it will probably be the old Saber but I'm not too fond of that twist. Mei funny scene was a bit too long for my taste this week. But I'm happy that the Rintaro X Mei ship is kinda officially acknowledged after last weeks interactions. I don't get the preview for next week though. Am i supposed to be afraid Buster will die next week ? I just saw one of these petrified guys returned to normal after Medusa Megid was beaten. So why would I feel scared ? The timing doesn't feel right. Maybe there will be a twist making him not possible to return to normal, that's possible, but doesn't change the fact the timing of this ep resolution + preview is kinda bad on this side. |

I'm not worried about Buster turning to stone, I'm worried about Buster turning to stone and then the Megid realizing "Hey, let's shatter it so he can't return to normal" thus killing him that way. |

Also spoiler pic for next week (that was not in the preview so be warned) : https://i.imgur.com/cAYzU5w.jpg Outside of the fact there are lot of jokes about "Hey he is a dad and Kamen Rider so he will die soon hehe", the actor is never present in the cast pictures posted on social medias. Megid member often post together, and Touma/Mei/Rintaro/Kento/Ren are often together too. But I never actually saw Ryo. oof. Hope it doesn't mean he is done filming already. |

I do still think someone not among main three Riders might go out of commission before the first quarter is up, but certainly not next week.
Neato episode. The journey to Avalon was more of a grocery trip than anything, and mainly just set-up for next week's big robot toy. What I liked better was the absolutely crowded fight among the Riders and a four different monsters. It would be exhausting to have fights like these often, but a big messy brawl every now and then I think really drives home the feeling that there are a lot of parties involved in this conflict. |

Blades Fantastic Lion looks, well, fantastic. I don't know why but despite the clunkiness it has a certain knightly charm to it. I suppose the wings on the back help.
The transformation jingle on the other hand is not so fantastic. The overlapping of the two voices was terrible. It sounded more like a chaotic duel than a harmonious duet. EDIT: The enemy exploding into water droplets instead of bursting into flames was a nice touch however. Really hope they do that some more some in the future. Fantastic Lion was really nice to see, and our little tease at King of Arthur is also nice. Sadly unless they end up making extra books that relate to it or adding it into a power up, then it'll likely fall by the wayside.
Which is a shame because you'd think, given Knights and stuff that King Arthur's power would be a pretty big deal. Granted, no idea what the next quarter has in store for us, and it could possibly keep it relevant. I also do like how during the summoning of the 13 Books on each side, there did seem to be like, actual books in that regard and not just random ones. Like the little cameo of our Chinese and Toysrus exclusive books on the Sword of Logos' side. Alongside three books... red, blue, yellow, that all seem to have similar theming to each other. Hmm... |

So, just in case there was any doubt left, this episode marks what I'm sure will only be the first of many episodes written by Keiichi Hasegawa, meaning the entire trio of Ghost writers is assembled once again, as if Saber needed any more help making people who weren't fond of how that series came out worried. Look, he wrote a lot of great episodes of Double too, alright? It'll be fine!
One very talented person who I don't believe ever touched Ghost, on the other hand, was Hidenori Ishida, who directs this one with some serious flair. I honestly thought it was even more stylish than Kamihoriuchi's episodes the last two weeks, and that blows my mind a little. I know that, thanks in large part to Die's watch threads and the one I did for Kuuga, I basically haven't shut up about the guy on this forum in, what, close to an entire year at this point? But I swear I'm not even actively trying to single him out. It's just that, ever since I started making an effort to pay attention to director names in Rider during Zi-O, I've quickly come to realize there are few directors who have worked on the franchise that are both so prolific and so readily identifiable in style. And that brings me right back to that one word – style. The episode is positively dripping with surreal visuals and more impressionistic ways of portraying scenes I don't think would have the same impact coming from most directors. Calibur's demonic chanting with no background, the distorted unreality of Touma and Kento's initial entrance into Avalon, Rintarou's emotional training/flashback, heck, even just Mei's cartoonishly elongated almost fatal fall, the visual touches I loved in this one were almost countless. They look great, and benefit the story being told, which is all you can ever ask for. And the story being told, for the record, is one I'm quite enjoying in its own right. I think the A/B plot structure especially works leagues better here than it has been so far, with the epic Rider-on-monster battle royale escalating in a way that underscores the urgency of Touma's quest to become Saber again. It's not the most meaty episode in terms of new revelations or development, though; there's a distinct "middle chapter" feel to the whole thing, but it's a very exciting way to bridge a gap. The most genuine progression in the whole episode was probably wacky female lead Mei pretty blatantly crushing on skilled secondary Rider Rintarou, which is both 1000% Akiko from Double, and also something I'm excited to see have the groundwork laid down for smoother and earlier than Double did. I don't mean to diss the epic fantasy plot going on, because, again, I'm enjoying that too, but I'm honestly more excited to see if this goofy romantic subplot will go anywhere in the future.
