I just saw this is getting a BluRay release in the US and am super pumped! Although I wish 1985 was also being released as well!
Does anyone know how to get a hold of Kraken Releasing? They have been making it a point of re-releasing some of my all time favorite Godzilla flix and I hope they keep it coming. I'm really interested in a re-release on BluRay of the original Mothra movie from 1961 and the first Mechagodzilla movie from 1974. Last edited by Zilla; 07-24-2016 at 05:04 PM.. |

I don't think 1985 will ever get released again
I think a re-release of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla would be nice, since that one tends to get a little on the expensive side.

Try their social media page. They have said they do have some more Kaiju surprises later on this year. I was hoping they were going to reveal them at SDCC, but maybe they will do so at Otakon next month. Here's hoping Son of Godzilla and MechaG74 are two of them.

It'd be neat to have both versions available like on the Godzilla 2000 blu ray, but at least we're getting the original. I just don't know whether to get the blu-ray to go with my other Heisei-era blu-rays, or DVD to go with my copies of Hedorah, Ebirah, and Gigan...
Is Kraken going to be at Otakon? I'll be there so if they are I'll have to check it out

Just got the blu ray, seen it twice so far.
It's crazy how this almost seems like a completely different movie than 1985. I can't really decide which version I like more. On one hand 1984 explains things better, but I feel 1985 cut all the filler out and has more suspense. Obsiouly I might be biased since 1985 was the one I owned on vhs and watched often. It was good to see this movie again, I do hope for a 1985 release someday, crossing my fingers. |

I've always been a much bigger fan of 1985 primarily for Raymond Burr's scenes and a slightly faster pace.
1985's dub is also pretty great for a Heisei Godzilla film. I think the only lame moments are "SAYONARA SUCKER" and pretty much all of the Major's dialogue. The "death scream" as Godzilla is plunged into Mihara is also a great touch to an already sad scene. Really makes you feel for the big guy. Anyway, I might check out Kraken's release just for having the Japanese version on Blu-Ray. Might combine my bootleg 1985 DVD with it in a double-disc case. |
