Kamen Ride Or Die

Here's one.
(There's a band I love, Superchunk, and the lead singer always introduces songs at live shows with a simple, "Here's one," and then they play a song. I don't know why that was in my head, but it was, and that's why I started the post that way.) What do you think is the most underrated Kamen Rider series? A few of us were talking about Agito recently, and that's a show that doesn't seem to get people talking too much, despite how many unique things it does for a Kamen Rider show. That got me wondering what other Rider shows folks think are missing from the conversation, the really special shows that get overlooked by too many fans. So which ones do you think need more recognition? As a follow-up, pitch us all on that show (or shows). What, in a few sentences, makes that show worth taking a closer look at? How would you describe that show to wary fans?

In my opinion just the entire Showa Era really it feels so left out of everything. From the toys like the Ziku-Driver having railcodes for Showa Riders and even making some of the Ridewatches for the Over Quartzer movie and the Final Stage yet still nothing for actual toys.
Or in promotions like these T-Shirts of Zero-One with the rest of the Heisei Riders yet nobody from the Showa Era. I feel like whenever anybody reccomends new shows to watch thier never even brought up.Hell Bluefins surveys on Kamen Rider that has a question asking 'what your favorite Rider show?' and yet it dosen't even have the Showa Riders as a option at all . Hopefully with all of the Showa shows finally been subbed entirely things can start changing more often. Last edited by GrandComplete; 02-20-2020 at 11:37 PM.. |

While some people might not think it was one of the greats I'm going to have to say Kiva. It did loads of things better than both Den-O and Decade but people are blinded by it having another protagonist like Ryotaro (though more likeable IMO) and a few moments of bad writing here and there. I admit there were things that did annoy me like the part when Kengo came back but I have to say the overall package was easily on a par with Kuuga-Kabuto for me and then after that shows went in a poor direction which I hated at times, which thankfully now has in a way come back round again and we have slightly more of a balance.

Honestly I can't think of anything. If it's Sentai though I can name a few.

I guess it depends on what you consider underrated, because I've never considered Agito to be such since I've seen mostly good things said about it. On the reverse is something like Ghost which I like decently enough but most people basically despise, so that might count as underrated from my perspective.
Though personally I have no idea what counts as a show that is 'talked about a lot' because I don't know what reason would anyone have to bring up any show other than because they had recently watched it. |

Agito Agito Agito Agito Aaaaagiiiiiitoooooooo. Said it before on that thread and I'll say it again: no-one ever talks about that show despite it being friggin' fantastic! Kuuga may have been the technical start of the Heisei era; but Agito is what actually kicked off its structure, its tropes, its everything. I'm happy it got shown the love it deserved in Zi-O but far too few people recommend or even talk about this show, and it's a damn shame. It's not quite in my top 5, but it's such a ridiculously close call!
I'll also say Hibiki and Wizard here. Hibiki's situation is obvious -- terrible latter half riddled with production issues, but the first 29 episodes is a lovely little stretch that manages to be uniquely serene and relaxed for a show about demons killing giant crabs with guitars. It's just a lovely, cozy show which deserves more reverence. Wizard on the other hand... I'm not gonna say is great or anything, but I think it just gets too much hate. It's far from 'the worst Kamen Rider show', it's just kind of middling imo and there's a lot more positives than people give it credit for. I feel similarly about Decade and Zi-O actually, but in my experience people either hate them profusely or love every single them about them. So a bit hard to evaluate a consensus there

Kabuto. Yeah, Yonemura and Inoue, plot holes galore, why is there an Iron Chef parody, et cetera et cetera, couldn't agree more. But looking solely at the premise, art direction, and concept, it is a cool show. The cast-off and clock-up gimmicks really are fun and the suit designs are just timeless. Casting was great, and has the uninitiated ask the million dollar question; what is this miso-simmered mackerel they speak of, where can I eat it, or matter of fact, how can I make it?

Can't really agree with those who claim Agito, personally. Like, yeah, it's not bad, but even as someone whose favorite era of KR is Phase 1 Heisei, I still think of it as one of the weaker entries. Plus, as time goes on more and more people seem to be giving Agito alot of love, so...
Had you asked me this a few years ago I would've said Blade, but like Agito, more and more people have been finding a fondness for it over time. Is it the best Rider show ever? No, but it's one people should check out. Honestly it's hard for me to think of any Rider show as "underrated" all things considered, since every season has its hardcore fans. So I guess I'll give a total copout answer and say every season that isn't one of the super popular ones. So any that aren't Den-O, Gaim, etc. |

Blade.
The amount of people who haven't experienced Blade and constantly keep it on the backburner is disappointing, considering it's easily one of the best in the franchise. If you've seen Blade, you know it's a series worth watching, yet people just don't give it the time of day.
