Changeman 02. Between the hilarious homoeroticism and the genuinely fantastic villains. This is developing as an enjoyable series.
The fact the villains actually have a reason to fight, beyond 'take over the earth defeat the sentai'. It's just a very progressive, really interesting dynamic for the villains. Shame they undermined the reveal by having the slitheen looking dude piss himself. The heroes are where this show falls flat. The only time they are out of suit is for more action sequences, and since they refer to one another as their Ranger names when transformed (which is for the majority of the episode) I couldn't even tell you who the actual Rangers are. Obviously it's like thirty years old and we should keep that in mind, but it's just really awkwardly put together. If they don't have the budget to do something, don't do it, don't just awkwardly edit around it and hope no one would notice. It's edited so poorly in places, it actually borders on incoherent. There is also just the usual trippy shit you get in classic sentai, which I've never been a huge fan of. Like the "life draining mansion" which is just a single, very small room, with a bubble machine in it, a few tubes and some ripped plastic sheets. Or the general who is female but has a deep male voice poorly dubbed over her footage. But we're all here for the gay.

Jetman 1 and 2
So far, Jetman started out pretty well. It was funny that only Red is one of the well-trained guys that were supposed to be the heroes, while the others were some random people hit by the birdonic waves. The cast seems like a likeable bunch, even though Gai is being an idiot atm. So far, my favorite is Ako though. The action looked pretty cool (except for the wires. I mean, they had a higher budget then Zyuranger and you still see those at some point!), especially when they used their wings- I love the Jetman suits. I'm still a bit cautious though, because it's an Inoue series. That guy better surprises me positively for once this time... or else! |

She's the most beautiful actress in toku that I think I've come across.

(plus, you eventually get amusing scenes like this) Last edited by Aoi Kurenai; 04-27-2014 at 05:47 PM.. |

More Jetman! Episode 32!
This was a rather tragic arc for Ryu, and I enjoyed that his overcoming his issues wasn't just him screaming "BUREIVU" and the problem being solved. It made Ryu out to be rather weak in mind after having Rie return, however brief it was. It didn't shy away from making Ryu seem pitiful during his breakdown, and I loved it. Speaking of, his breakdown was also rather good. It wasn't the cliche "Scream to the heavens" style that I'm rather used to seeing, but more subdued, with him even hallucinating. Gai showed more of his true colors this episode as well, fighting Raita after he insulted Ryu, pulling a cliche (But still nice) "Only I can be the one to ____ him!" line. He also calls him the best of them, and it was overall a fun experience to see Gai in his more vulnerable state again. I think if I had any qualms, it'd be the demons lasting about as long as Juuza, disappointingly. It made it hard to stay invested as they were gone just as soon as they showed up.

More Jetman! More weapons in their arsenal! More toys on the shelves!
Kind of unfortunate the episode itself was kind of subpar. Adhesion Cockroach wasn't really all that terror inducing, the civilian actors were terrible, and Mika was content shooting for average in her performance. Gai and Ryu now being buddy buddy makes Gai seem like a waste of time now. I know I wasn't very happy with Gai being the kind of guy to get in your face simply for being in the same room as him, but it was something. With him now being so friendly, it seems his only character trait is gone and he seems bland. And now the episode where Ryu turns traitor. I know how it was gonna play out from the very get go, but I am glad the entire team wasn't in on the plan until the end. I was really hoping for Ryu to actually turn for the sake of saving Rie, but the traitor episode never really does anything new...

Watched the first nine episodes of Carranger. I'm enjoying them, but after that Gokaiger tribute, it's kind of a shock that this series isn't as outright wacky as I thought it would be. It's somehow more subdued AND more bizarre than ToQger all at once. Like...it's absurd but not wacky, if that makes ense.
And hell, nine got pretty sad and had a badass moment where Kyosuke faced down Zelmonda (that's the name of Elgar;'s counterpart, right?). Speaking of Zelmonda, despite his goofy moments, it is WEIRD how much more of a threat he seems than Elgar. And Zonette...her existence makes me question if this was supposed to be a kid's show at times. I'm not gonna complain in this case though. I REALLY like how the Bowzack need a stupidly specific kind of candy in order to grow giant. They've already played wth that a lot early on and I hope they continue to do it later. The ranger,s I don't have much to say about them at the moment. They're all competent enough...well, most of the time. They're also all kind of morons, which I like. My favorite episode so far was the one where Blue thought they all hated him. That whole weird car wash technique he used to stop his teammates from becoming so fat they'll explode was...yeah. Kind of amazing. So yeah I like it so far. Bizarre...but not satisfyingly bizarre enough. |

Jetman!
There have been dumb episodes, but this one...Yeah. This one just felt like a waste of time. Literally the only reason why I watched it was because last episode's "Next time" sequence spoiled an important part of the episode that I was curious over how it would come to be. Oh well. It was an episode that heavily featured Vyram that didn't consist of Ryu screaming "RIE!" for twenty straight minutes, so that was nice. But outside of the last minute, there really wasn't much else to this episode. I liked Ant Bazooka's design, but like all good monsters, it only appeared for, like, 2 minutes before getting axed off... Oh well. At least next episode looks decent.
