I find this show so frustrating because at times it is so, so good and others it is just garbage. Like I love how twisted this series is as times, I'm not a fan of the whole grimdark trend, but I do think this show really understands the horror genre and uses it well. I mean zombies, how tired have they become?! But here they are just terrifying!
Also in the last few episodes Nexus has become a much more interesting fighter to watch on screen, so I'm actually getting pretty engaged in his fights, especially against big villains like Faust and Mephisto. PLUS I really missed a truly great villain, so far in all the toku I am currently juggling, no one really brings the 'oh shit' factor like Mizorogi/Mephisto. Such a badass, I love him. I just hope this isn't the last we see of him, I'm still missing Faust. On the other hand I find it very hard to enjoy a series where I don't like any of the heroes, no wonder both Leather Jacket and Komon share the main character chair because they don't even carry the title together so I dread to think how bad it would be if we focused on just one of them. It's funny as well just how much character drama this show crams in, without making us care about anyone first. Plus although the action is getting better, that doesn't stop the special effects from being atrocious. Nexus and Mephisto's energy attacks lack a sense of weight, impact and power, those CGI fight sequences are AWFUL and I think the monster designs in this show are just pure shit, period. The Ultramen look slightly better but those suits are so damn cheap looking. I also can't understand why Nexus is a giant hero other than that is just how the show is done. Having every fight be a Giant Hero fight only draws attention to how much this stuff doesn't work, they don't even seem to have the proportions properly worked out. The pacing is also really really off, it feels less like everything is sliding into place and more that shit is just happening randomly, with them doing their best to pencil things in when they can. This feels especially true of Nexus, who barely feels a part of his own show.

These episodes were a bit meh in my opinion, though I appreciate the ultraman getting better at acrobatics. the monsters just don't look threatening, it moved less than sentai monsters at there worst, and I really don't like the whole vermin theme they have, it basically makes nexus a glorified exterminator.
And i'm really getting annoyed by the very large plot-hole of why, if they are all working together they don't get on their hands and knees and beg nexus to join them. By how chummy they acted it seemed like it was going to happen, then the penultimate bitch had to point her gun at him. However it was interesting to see the explanation behind dark mephisto and nagi, it almost made nagi seem human. |

Gave episode 16 a watch, will probably do the other 2 tomorrow night.
I'm glad Komon came to a good conclusion at the end of the episode. I realise he's been through a lot but from a viewer point of view he's beginning to come across as an overly whiny character now.

Ahhh yes, Galberos. Interesting pair of episodes after Nosferu and Komon's drama over the loss of Riko seems to have reached its conclusion. More importantly is learning more of the story behind what brought Nagi and Mizorogi where they are now, going some way to explaining the bond they share and the last piece of her current bitchiness. The way Mephisto corrupts Mizorogi and preys on his desire to survive is simple and effective, and yet the way Nagi rejects him and why is similarly expected and perfect. Galberos might be dead again, but have we really seen the last of Mephisto...?
They make nothing remotely approaching notable appearances, but it's neat to see more Space Beasts and the type of threats that were being faced before the series started. Arakunia despite his cool bear-spider appearance fades into obscurity, but Frogros does make a surprise reappearance in Ultra Galaxy, one of the few monsters to literally survive Nexus as most suits have either apparently been recycled or lost to time. Guess Frogros was so forgettable even Tsuburaya forgot him!

I'm up through episode 17. I'm lagging behind a bit, mostly because every time I sit down to watch Ultraman my brain says "Hey, let's watch Max instead!"
I'm still liking Nexus, although by about halfway through 16 I was getting really sick of Komon and Riko. Nice to see that we seem to be moving beyond that, though. Episode 17 was definitely more interesting. I'm kinda missing the "new monster per episode" thing that Max has, but Nexus himself seems to be doing much better in the fights. |

I finally catched up, man that took quite a while.
Nice set of episodes, the Riko arc dragged a bit too much, but it ended nicely. And the backstory of Mizorogi and Nagi was interesting, Mephisto's words were simple yet effective. That said I miss Faust, I prefer him over Mephisto, he was far more enigmatic. |

Good to see Komon is finally getting out of his downward spiral. It must admit, it is rather interesting on Jin and Mizorogi are so fixated on setting him down on a particular path of life. Seeing the backstory on how Mizorogi became Mephisto was rather interesting. I did like how Nagi just shot him, but I seriously doubt that's the last time we see him.
