Overtime have uploaded the first episode of Kaiju Club, the show about a group of Kaiju Otaku coming together in the '70s and forming a club, and it was alright. While the approach was different then I imagined, I more or less got exactly what I expected when I read the description of the show. I got to admit though, I wasn't really all that interested in the girlfriend drama. It tied into the message of the episode and all that but I just wasn't a fan.
I loved all the Kaiju stuff though. Seeing a bunch of nerds sit around a table discussing the philosophy of children's tv show episode is kind of cool, though it is a bit surreal since they're pretty much us minus the obvious differences. I really liked that they set this in the 70s. Its interesting seeing how they used to review TV episodes and express their love for something before the internet. Makes me wonder how different the viewing experience will be 30 years from now. Anyone else want to see them analyse a modern day Tokusatsu? I wonder how much they'd rage about how gimmicky everything is these days. |
