Amazon Japan just put up pre orders for the Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger Blu-Ray Collection 1.
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B06XHGRL...83%A3%E3%83%BC Interestingly, the set will include an audio CD called The Nine Shot which features the cast from the show. But what's actually on the CD wasn't revealed. What was revealed however was the price and release date: with an MSRB of a whopping 21,384 yen. Coming out September 13 2017. |

So 12 episodes out of how many? For that much?
God damn.

To paraphrase Kevin Hart, "because of how the bank account is set up".
Jokes aside though, one of the reasons seems to be because media in Japan is set up to be dependent on the revenue from personal media copies since the way they set up payment structures with TV airing and theater screenings(but mostly TV airing) is not enough to make back what they invested to create said media work. And there is probably also the assumption that has been true somewhat of "the loyal hardcore fans will support us probably".

I still laugh at people surprised at the price. That is actually cheaper than what they used to be. My Gokaiger discs were 9800Y each and they only had 4 episodes on each disc. That's 29,400Y for 12 episodes, so the cost of Kyuuranger is a steal.
It's just a shame that Kyuuranger is not worth buying. |

Piracy never really caught on in Japan so the prices for home video releases more or less stayed the same there. That, and their laws regarding video streaming and file transferring are lot stricter than it is here.

Don't forget that DVDs and BDs are more for collectors there rather than the general public as the general public prefers to rent and nothing else. Plus, not many people have room for video collections sadly. Japan still thinks this is 1920 when it comes to life styles.

I'm not surprised by the Bluray prices actually. I remember reading a blog post a while back that went into detail about why DVD prices are so high in Japan compared to just about everywhere else. I was planning on making a joke about the prices but I must have forgotten.

Why are the Japanese BluRay prices so high? I am curious....really curious for the reason.
