One more mild point of contention: I don't like the blue chest on Balance. I prefer the mostly golden look he sported before, with only the blue stripe.

With you on that. Would of been nicer if he was just pure gold beforehand and added the stripe afterwards, but, oh well.

You know what, this episode could've been so much better if they cut out Lucky. I mean, the pacing is a bit on the fast side but the whole world-building and spectacle of science-fiction/space fantasy made me forget how break neck it truly was. Plus, this episode is actually slower than the first.
Balance should've kept his previous color scheme. I really like the duo he makes with Naga. A basic Spock vs McCoy thing contradicted by the robot being emotional while the organic being stoic. But as again, Lucky ruined everything for me. And what do the rest even do? What does Hammy do? Or Champ? They need love too, guys! |

Balance is really cool and I love his personality. Naga is alright, but the whole emotionless thing is really weird. This was a great episode overall. I've been craving Kyuranger so badly that I've been watching the episodes multiple times.
Also I really don't see the need for Balance to get the blue paint on his chest. I would've preferred that he gets a jacket since they made it work for Raptor.

This episode was better than last because it didn't give me a headache but it was really boring. I know we have to give this show slack until episode 5 for when the nine rangers are together but damn. Also how they get their kyutamas I find to be stupid because Naga and Balance get theirs from a random jewel that they wanted to steal and for some reason it spits out two kyutamas. The first episode made it seem like they were meteors pretty much. Once you are chosen a kyutama will come striking down from space which I did find cool but now no.
Seriously hope things change once they are all together because the characters seem to go like this: Lucky- a child Hammy- finds random things funny for some reason Champ- the muscle which I hope that is changed with the next episode Yellow- food and food puns Garu- um a loyal dog I guess I mean besides his very rushed background I can't think what his character is Balance- does what he wants from what I can tell Naga- he is Sai from Naruto speaking of which my guesses for the next two Orange- from the opening and the tiny bit of him just walking I will guess he is a lone wolf type or Sasuke Raptor- not sure yet bet I will guess Sakura which I hope is when Sakura got better worse case scenario she is Kanon and if that is the case then we are fucked One good thing I can give to this show is it does really well at being a big toy commercials because I kinda want to weapons and the mecha now. I have no clue why but I would kinda like that maybe because this episode is boring. I really do hope the show gets better because it has a purple ranger. Also this is a heads up/warning, the sky blue ranger seems to be a kid right so considering how the characters been so far just imagine what that ranger will be like. I finally got around to watching this week's episode. Oddly, it felt more rushed than the first one. Meet the new guys. Decide to steal with them. Betrayal! Unearned emotional moment (ironically being a moment of actual emotions). Another emotional moment! Double betrayal! New recruits! Fight. Robo fight. Poor Green! Lucky is annoying. Credits.
Overall, I wasn't as enamored as I was with the previous entry. Balance has joined Lucky and dog boy at the bottom of the character heap. (Also, the Overtime guys should know it's never lupus. ) I am enjoying the world building and some of the camera angles and the like make things seem a little fresher than they might otherwise. The robo stuff was, mostly, pretty good this week, though not as great as last week. I'm slightly cooled on the show but, at least for the time being, I'm keen to stick with it for the long haul. Also, this episode did convince me even more that I really want Kyuren-Oh.

Better than the first episode. It was fast paced but it didn't feel like the first episode which seemed like 2 episodes mashed together.
Balance and Naga are an interesting duo. Balance is pretty great! The setup for the Jark Matter Bosses makes me think maybe the Kyurangers won't just end up on Earth for 90% of the show like everyone expects? Maybe? I'm enjoying this show! YOSSHA RAKI! |

This thread probably has the most negative reactions to this episodes that I've seen thus far. Granted most of it is towards Lucky which I kinda get but to be honest Lucky doesn't seem any worst than the other red rangers with this kinda archetype. In fact I actually think his whole extremely good luck is a pretty clever explanation for a lot of the plot contrivances that tokusatsu shows tend to have.
While the pacing was still a little fast, the episode did give a nice introduction to both Naga and Balance as a duo though video right here has me completely sold on them. Hopefully they will still continue the outer space aspects of the show as it really does help with the variety and settings. |

I thought this episode was actually really good, probably one of the better Sentai episodes I've seen since ToQger. (granted, I couldn't bring myself to care about Zyuohger to watch more than 24 episodes)
While I disliked the first episode because it felt so rushed and Lucky was overbearing as a character, this one balanced things in a way that I enjoyed. Yeah, the other characters didn't get a ton of focus, but their in battle dialogue and actions felt like it gave them some much needed character. I especially loved seeing Sparda jump to protect Hammy - it's not a huge thing in the grand scheme but little moments like that are always very important to me. I'm cool with things if this is the format the show wants to take - split the group up a bit and have one off being the main focus of the episode while the other is fighting but still getting those little moments. Lucky was also so much more bearable in this episode. I don't know what happened to him but it feels like they toned him down enough that I don't mind him too much now. If you're gonna have a character whose schtick is "everything goes good for him and he's the best ever" I'd much rather see the execution of the character the second episode gave us as opposed to the first. My expectations for Naga were already pretty low so when he turned out to not only be decent but actually a pretty fun character, I was totally excited. His actor so far seems to nail the character with very few moments of awkwardness in there. I can't wait to see more of the relationship between him and Balance, they make such a good team. Also, little things this episode did made me love it more than the first. The fact that it's not set on Earth wasn't too big in the first episode but the setting in this one was pretty great. Yeah, you're still basically in a factory with CGI and overlaid graphics, but it still feels different enough from a regular earth setting that I totally felt these guys were on a different planet. My only worry is that this might go away sooner rather than later. Juspion did this as well but it only lasted for about four episodes in that show. Here's to hoping Kyuranger can keep the characters away from Earth for a nice long while. (also, really cool to see the monsters have Inro, it's such an interesting way of bringing history and pop culture into the show) |
