So, um...Villains! Villains are cool stuff, aren't they? They can be intimidating, goofy, sympathetic, utterly monstrous, but most certainly, they can be just really fun to watch, maybe even to the point they overshadow the main characters and become your favorite! This is about that type of villain: Who are some Toku villains you personally enjoy and why? They can be from anything, Sentai, Power Rangers, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, etc.
Here's a couple of mine: Cancer (Kamen Rider Fourze) Cancer's screentime may have been short, but he was extremely memorable. This guy was crazy fun whenever he showed up: being a combination of dangerously competent, ridiculously funny (I've got a weakness for puns, I admit it), and surprisingly intelligent and manipulative at times really worked in his favor to me. Ryoma Sengoku (Kamen Rider Gaim) In one of Kamen Rider's darkest seasons, Ryoma stood out as being a particularly twisted villain in my eyes; a sociopath who only values his research and himself above everyone and everything else, his constant manipulations and amoral research leads to pretty much everything going into a downhill spiral, but he's very much a love-to-hate villain to me for matching his utter ruthlessness and remorselessness with an odd charisma and just plain fun performance. Basco Ta Jolokia (Gokaiger) Basco was by far and away the best villain Gokaiger had for multiple reasons; His selfish, backstabbing, manipulative ways, coupled with his lack of any sort of remorse for any action (even harming innocent kids), his interesting philosophy of having to give something up to gain another thing (even if that something is your best friends), his intense and, IMO, extremely well-done rivalry with Marvelous that culminated in one of the most satisfying fight scenes I've seen in a Toku, and on top of it all, masking his monstrosity behind a veneer of a relaxed, teasing, even affable personality that made him a joy to watch even when he was doing something despicable. There's a lot I like from Godzilla to Ultraman and Kamen Rider, but the Dopant named Taboo in Kamen Rider W I especially really liked. I thought the character was interesting and I really liked the costume design and the way the hair was all crazy and had a monster woman inside it, and how the hair covered the eye sections like a mask. The whole design was really cool, and how she flew around and had no legs was pretty weird.
She's a real favorite. |

I guess I will have to say Dr. Obler/Gou Omura from Liveman. He is one of the few lieutenant villans who had quite the journey to redemption. I want to say more but just watch the show and you will know what I mean and I hope those who saw Liveman agree with me. The way they developed him despite being a top tier lackey for Bias alongside his other classmates that defected to Volt is still a rarity. We had villains defect in Super Sentai with some being rangers but I think Omura's redemption has weight to it and is one of the reasons Liveman is one of the best 80s Super Sentai shows.

I still have a soft spot for the Sonozakis from W. I loved how they felt like something out of a telenovela yet were fascinating, backstabbing, and ultimately tragic. They were always a thrill to watch.
I also just have to say Kusaka from Faiz for actually getting me to scream at my laptop. Several times. No other villain got quite as much of a rise out of me as him. YOU KNOW WHY.

Long, from Gekiranger, for basically being my favorite puppet master type character ever.
Like, seriously. While he doesn't have as much invested towards Ken, Ran, and Retsu, his actions are basically the entire series. A bit of an odd one, but the Peacock Undead, from Blade. Being the primary antagonist for the first arc, it was done really well, and he was surprisingly memorable, especially for helping establish Tachibana as a character. Dr. Maki, from OOO, because goddamn. Working all 3 sides right down the middle, without hiding his alliances. His backstory concerning the doll, his sister, and his nihilism is really nice and makes him a super interesting villain.

Here is another one. I am gonna put spoiler tags just in case.
hint: Timeranger villain Ryuya from Timeranger was the most diabolical I have ever seen.

Even though I've got ambivalent feelings about Jetman as a whole, the villains of the show were pretty sick, especially Radiguet being an utterly unredeemable dick. Tranza (not Tran) and Grey were also cool.
