I suspect Nick realises that Power Rangers earns them something decent, but they don't fully appreciate having a non-Nick entity as part of their lineup. I'm hoping the movie in 2016 will jolt the franchise into massive success, making it easier for Power Rangers to justify more episodes and better distribution.

Well it's possible that the new movie could make Power Rangers into a bigger mainstream product much like the Transformers live action movies did to the Transformers franchises. If Power Rangers becomes more popular and mainstream then Nick could jump on the hype train to cash in on it even longer.

I don't see Saban's business practices changing any time soon, so I doubt they'll go through with creating a channel. And unfortunately, any other competing channel is likely to give a similar arrangement as Nick has- Fact is that non-internal productions tend to be heavily disliked by the suits that run these things. That's why you don't see a lot of anime these days and why Adult Swim is filled with a lot of cheaply made cartoons and live-action parodies.
I doubt Disney would be looking to grant asylum after Saban pulled the fast one that they did, The Hub is right out because it's owned by Hasbro, and I wouldn't trust Cartoon Network to find its way out of a burlap sack to a good programming decision with a state-of-the-art GPS system and a Sherpa guiding them.

As A Ninja once said, "Nothing is impossible- But it is NOT very likely."

Because it worked so well for Hasbro and the Hub. /sarcasm
Look, I'm not a fan of Nickelodeon these days either, but unfortunately, the Saturday Morning Childrens' TV block is dead, and your kid show is going to be on either Disney, Cartoon Network, or Nickelodeon. The way I see it, Saban took the lesser of three evils here. |
