I really liked Den-O. I'm not a very critical viewer, so I'm not sure how I rank it with the other shows I've seen. But I've really been into the toys lately, and I think that's an indication that I rank the show really highly.
Kiva is still my favorite, due to having the best rider and monster designs. I thought the writing was pretty good, mostly. Double has a little more heart to it than Kiva did though, and I really dig the Memory mechanics, and that there are limited forms that they have mix and match to defeat the Dopants. While I enjoyed OOO a lot, I don't like the Medals as much as more limited options. There's so much to choose from, and sometimes it felt like they were just randomly choosing which ones to use, rather than consciously appraising the situations and abilities of each one (though they certainly did to that on occasion). Ryuki is quite interesting, though I don't find myself anticipating watching a new episode every day, so I'll watch a couple one day, then a week or two will pass before I get around to watching more. I'm experiencing the same with Fourze, I really enjoy them when I watch them, but I can easily go two or three weeks in between watches. I would say Den-O is close to as good as Double for me, so ranked third at worst, and possibly tied for second best rider series I've seen. I really liked the different forms, and that while he's willing to do what he can, he's not capable of going that much, and the Imagins have to possess him to accomplish anything. The stories are a good blend of seriousness with comedy. |
