If SaiDain is God in Gekiranger, how does religion work in Sentai? I mean, if there was no continuity between seasons at all, a mechanical dinosaur god, angels-in-training, Magic Heaven and a god rhino wouldn't clash so much, even though Gokaiger and the Vs Specials force paths to collide.
So many continuity snarls... Also, YES! SAIDAIOH DRAWS NEAR!!

I'll post my thoughts though.
Episode 31: Filler episode is filler episode, but it sets the stage for the upcoming arc. Moral of the story is teamwork is good m'kay. Though that isn't to say this episode doesn't have anything neat going for it. We see the Super Sai Blade get used. And Long finally appears to someone that isn't Mele without a disguise. We see that Maku knows him, but the other Kenma don't, remember that. Also, despite Maku's power he can't even land a blow on Long. Episode 32: Once again Gekiranger knows how the raise the stakes. Rio and Mele's trip to the Jyugenkyo forces everyone into action. The Gekirangers, the Kensei, and the Kenma all in the same place at the same time. We learn about Master Brusa, and the story behind the GekiRin Rebellion. And as every sees Saidain for the first time, Rageku flings them into the past. One thing I liked is that the Kensei and the Kenma have their own little roll calls(though Go-Onger sees them doing this and turns the roll call stuff up to crazy levels ). Episode 33: Enter the Edo set. I think Gekiranger handled it better than some other series did personally. The whole doing a raid before the historical raid happens was neat. The Gekirangers trying to sword fight and then going screw it and beating the crap out of the samurai was very amusing. And GekiRinTouja makes its TV debut! When I was marathoning to catch up on Gekiranger, I had been skipping the credits and post credit stuff so I didn't know it existed, leaving me confused and in awe. I do like that Gekiranger makes their movie canon with them referencing having done it before. And next week things get real fun. Can't wait to see the fall of the Kenma and the rise of the Genjyuken as we transition into the final arc of Gekiranger Last edited by MidoGreen; 05-02-2013 at 09:32 AM.. |

Oh yes, something else to comment on.
I'm finding that Ken doesn't irk me as much as he did when I first watched Geki. I find his introduction was still too quickly rushed after we just got Gou, but watching him isn't causing me to facepalm like before, so that's always good.

I find that sometimes when you rewatch a show you opinion of a character can be altered by how you know their story arc ends. For example, I didn't care too much for Dearka in Gundam Seed but rewatching after seeing the whole series gave me a better appreciation for him.
I guess knowing what comes next helps.

If you think about it in original context it isn't rushed anyway. When Miki and Shafu said they wanted to add another Gekiranger they were referring to Ken. Gou is the one with the out of nowhere appearance. He wasn't even supposed to be alive. Ken may appear right after go but if you're looking at the way it was supposed to play out then Ken was already on his way back from training before Gou ever showed up.

This batch is kind of a mixed bag.You got the kid focus episode BLEH.The awesome story episode that gathers everyone together. Then a kind of filler/homaging/fan service episode.
Not until Kyoryuger with Blue's niece have I ever liked kid characters.I know, kids' show but still.KyoryuBlue's niece proves you can do something really cool with kids. And in other cases like this,it makes you not care about the kid character and feel no sympathy for them. 32 was freaking awesome. The kensei doing a roll call, the kenma doing a roll call, everyone brought to gather, racing to get to SaiDain.Great way to build up toward 34,the episode after the kinda unnecessary episode. 33 is really odd for me.First of all,FREAKING EDO SET.Glad to know that this series and Den-O really started the recent Edo trend. They have used that set 10 times at least in the last 5 years. The in show reasons, especially now are getting ridiculous.I don't understand why they need to keep using that set again and again every year.It makes me feel like they're getting really lazy.Give it a break, please. Rant aside, again I'm feeling I missed something completely.Maybe it's because I'm not brushed up on my Japanese history so I don't understand what they were even doing in Edo.As cool as it was to see the Gekirangers as samurais and struggling to use swords,I was just left confused.Again, probably lacking common knowledge that Japanese children would know. The highlights of the episode were definitely GekiRinTouja's TV debut and Mele trying to convince Rio that she was his wife. And the ending, yeah, things seem to be getting to series finale-like in a good way. Also,Long getting up close and personal in a sleeping Rio's grill.I'm sure there's a ton of Long x Rio fan art out there because of this. |
