Here we go-
not sure if I like RDJ being on hand to guide Peter through this movie but it feels weirdly metaphorical. also, there's still a gigantic JK Simmons-shaped hole in this franchise & that saddens me. |

The hype has definitely worn off for me. I don’t even want to go and see this anymore; I’m comfortable waiting for this once I can stream it.
On one hand I’m glad they’re changing a few things so it’s not the usual run-of-the-mill Spider-Man movie, on the other hand this lacks lots of things I love about Spider-Man. I really don’t like the whole Daddy Tony Stark stuff. I think they took it a bit too far with the inexperienced Spider-Man idea. Also I don’t like the villains, mostly because I can’t really get fired up about what they have to offer since I know its Marvel movie villains who are not called Loki, meaning I’ll never see them again after this. And starting with the Vulture of all things… eh. I mean I’m glad Shocker’s there too and they can introduce more meaningful bad guys later but still. And this trailer really is the whole plot in a nutshell, that’s not good. |

Wasn't Vulture one of the first villains Spiderman fought against period? After that was Chameleon. For villains like Goblin we'd need more buildup honestly and Sony's already making a Venom movie next year (completely separate and R Rated too)

Some bad guys just lose appeal over time. Every time I've read Spider-Man comics in my youth the Vulture was the type of villain who would appear in a one shot or as a member of some group, never as someone who could hold his own in an ongoing story-arc. And even at that part he wasn't too memorable. Honestly I would've preferred Shocker as the big bad or maybe even Mysterio. He's a bit obscure but at least you can have fun with him, sky's the limit with what they could achieve through special effects with that character. I mean special effects are what this guy is all about. Vulture is, well, flying monster guy. I'm not trying to be too hard on the movie for this, starting out with a really popular baddy who requires a lot of setup isn’t a good way to go either. Some villains like Doc Ock or the Goblins need some time, I agree with you on that one. And Michael Keaton alone is making this a lot more interesting. Quote:
I expect a shitty Agent Venom crapfest. |

Yep. Vulture was the villain of Amazing Spider-Man #2. Chameleon was the enemy of the second story to the first issue.
I haven't watched the trailer yet (nor the JL one), but I am super excited for this movie. I don't need to be hyped up to go see it, this is Spider-Man. Last edited by Dr Kain; 03-28-2017 at 09:46 AM.. |

Despite giving too much away, the trailer looks perfectly serviceable to me. I'll see it.

I haven't watched the trailer (Since apparently it gives away everything), but I think the Vulture is a perfect start.
Well known Spider-Man villain, but still ultimately a B lister. Member of the Sinister Six, which does give him some wiggle room to return for later films. Unused in the other 5 Spider-Man films, to prevent fans from basically doing a side by side comparison. I'm not saying your thoughts are wrong, but if they're going for the inexperienced Spidey angle, having him defeat a character like Ock or Goblin right out of the gate would be a little head scratching. Yeah, it'd be neat to see him overcome such a big foe, but I think starting a little smaller first works just as well. Also, every Spider-Man film thus far featuring one of the Goblins sucked shit anyway.
