Japan doesn't like shooters as they don't like guns that much iirc. Guns are illegal for civilians there

Western shooters like Halo don't appeal to Japanese gamers. That's why RPGs, Fighting games and casual games on Iphones are more popular.

The concept of the gun, a weapon that almost completely levels the playing field between people, regardless of strength, age, gender, etc. is almost offensive to many cultures. The idea that, say, the lowest peasant could kill the highest lord with a single pull of the trigger... Well, there was a reason the Japanese aristocracy tried so damn hard to keep guns out of their country. |

Those games are banned I think, Japan doesn't like incredibly gorey things to the point that God of War's Japanese releases were toned down pretty badly

The MK series didn't sell well in Japan which why they stop releasing them after MK Trilogy. I remember being told by a Japanese user on the MKonline forums that most fighting games fans in Japan find MK unappealing to them. They are not into Eastern culture being westernize.
Japan not liking incredibly gorey things seem wrong given how they made so many fuck up violent anime, manga and movies. I guess things are different with video games in Japan compare to other movies.

The only Japanese shooting game I know is Gunslinger Stratos. This game even has an anime adaptation.
