The idea of the protagonists hanging out at a cafe goes allll the way back to Snack Amigo in the original series, which I believe got ditched pretty early on (when Rider 2 showed up?), but it was also there from the very beginning, so I guess it left an impression.

Ah, fair enough. I didn't remember a cafe in Kuuga, but then again, there wasn't much worth remembering about Kuuga.
Even still, it makes the fact that Agito's hang out is just a home even more special, if it was something common way back in the Showa era, too

Ah yes, the most anticlimactic punch out, ever
Give me Go-Gadoru-Ba any day. His fights with Kuuga were cool as hell~ Anyway, wow. As I continue Agito, I can safely say I have no idea what is going on

Anti-climatic looking attacks are all what Ultimate Kuuga needs. He's so strong that his finisher kick can obliterate whole planet, obviously Godai doesn't want that.

I'm just saying, if he has a kick that could destroy the world, wouldn't Daguva be down in basically a punch and a half?

Man, if I said I knew what was going on in Agito, I'd be lying
It's managed to capture me enough to keep me going, unlike my previous attempt at viewing, so that's nice. But so much hinges on the mystery of the Akatsuki-gou that it's hard to really feel like the plot is going anywhere since no character will actually speak of it beyond the fact that they don't want to talk about it. Hikawa has been absent entirely from the last few episodes, and it's been felt (I'm on episode 28, for those that care). I didn't realize how much he added until the plot decided to hard focus on Agito and Gills. Thankfully, he's back according to the next time preview. These most recent episodes also really cemented in to why I like Hikawa's presence in comparison to Shouichi's or Ryou's. Hikawa has a solid goal and desires, is fully aware of what's going on, and actively tries to move the plot forward (While he isn't actually successful in doing so, he does try). Shouichi's amnesia, happy go lucky attitude, and lack of agency makes him feel more reactive than anything. Often times episodes will just feature him solely to have their required 1 Agito fight, then he'll just vanish for the remaining 15 minutes. Him regaining his memory, only to lose it again one episode later actively frustrated me. Meanwhile, Ryou is trying to solve some sort of mystery. Shame it's poorly explained as to why. He has a notebook filled with names, and he's trying to meet everyone in this book...Because reasons. He already explained that it's not for an explanation for his father's death, and I don't see why this notebook would give him any clues as to why he can suddenly transform (In a meta sense, I know it will, but in terms of the series, why would he assume this?), so Gills just seems like a wandering guy that just happens to cross paths with everyone else. Agito is just head scratching, since it wants to maintain this mystery akin to the Grongi's game, except there far less scenes of the villains (In writing this, I just remembered the boy that rapidly aged who is associated with the villains was a thing, too), and the mystery is only a mystery because no character wants to acknowledge the Akatsuki-gou incident, rather than because there's truly something keeping everyone from understanding everything. I'm not saying I need the plot laid out on a silver platter, but damn, Agito, give me something Anyway, I will say, though. I like that the show has acknowledged that Shouichi has a special air to him that basically has everyone else get lost in his world. Even the impossibly assholish Houjou managed to get caught up in Shouichi's antics
