Recently I watched some Sentai as suggested by a friend, (because I watched the Kamen Rider VS Sentai movie and asked him some questions about it, like, "who the hell is this Capt Marvelous dude?"),..and I thought it was alright,..I'll definitely finish the series and probably watch a couple more series.
So I started looking online thinking it probably wouldn't be that hard to find 5 or so figures and assemble a little team for my shelf. I was especially thinking since there's (I thought) a ton of Power Rangers toys it should be easy to grab some MMPR toys and just consider them to be Sentai. And I started looking, and looking, and looking. It's like I find a run that made 3 figures but I can't find the other 2. Or I find a run that (sort of?) looks ok like the Legacy series,...but they're very muscular and don't actually look much like the show at all. Or I find a Bandai Red Ranger Vinyl figure that looks really good and a lot like the show when it comes to proportions,...but then all I find is Red Rangers and none of the other team members. I find some great looking SH Figurarts figures, but not the whole team. So I'm starting to think I'll probably just buy that red vinyl Ranger that has the right proportions, and the Red Capt Marvelous vinyl (since he was in the Kamen Rider movie I'll add him to my Kamen Rider collection),..and just call it a day I guess. I do like the full size Red Ranger helmets I've been seeing for like $100. Maybe I'll just get one of those and put it with my Stormtrooper helmets. I'm not trying to whine (too much?),.. but I was really surprised that it sure doesn't seem easy to build a good looking, accurate, Sentai team. I'm not giving up the hunt, ...the hunt is part of the fun of collecting, right? But it amazes me that what I thought would be so much easier than getting Godzilla/KRider/Ultraman,...has turned out to be so much harder to find than G/KR/U. Starting to think the MMPR Legacy figures Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Black, Pink,....are probably my best bet to get a whole team together though. Is that about right? And just have to accept the proportions are all wrong when compared to the show? edit: And I'm all ears if some wise ol' Sentai/MMPR Collector want's to go, "What you need to do is..." It includes Super (or is it Hyper?) ShinkenRed rather than his base form. The thing is replete with accessories, although their colors don't quite match the color schemes of the individual heroes. I don't know what that set costs on the aftermarket these days. Could be expensive or could be cheap; I don't know how well it sold, since they haven't released anything similar since. I think ShinkenGold is relatively cheap on the aftermarket, although he doesn't quite match the metallic rest of the team. I don't love the metallic colors, but they're still good figures. This set might be your best bet. - The core Go-Busters are, I think, relatively cheap on Mandarake, since they weren't all that popular when they were released. There are, however, no figures of Beet Buster or Stag Buster. - The core Hurricanegers may not be that expensive, particularly since they were given separate releases outside Japan as Power Rangers Ninja Storm. The core three and the Gouraigers are available, but there's no Shurikenger. The complete Gokaigers and Sun Vulcan, and the core Dekarangers and Kyoryugers plus Gold) are available, but expensive, since I think part of those teams were web exclusives. Boukenger, Goseiger, Goranger, Dairanger, and Jetman only partly exist. I don't know much about vinyls, other than that they'd be drastically cheaper. |

as an update I went with the Metallic Legacy figures as my Zyuranger team. I know they're not exactly show accurate but they do look cool with the metallic paint shining in a way that's reminiscent of the shows suits. And they came with weapons that looked like the show.
They also seem posable in a way that's similar to the way SHF figures are posable. thanks for your detailed replies though. |

the metallic Legacy Rangers look great, I'm pretty happy with them.
I wish they weren't all muscled out like super-heros,..and since I got them as a Sentai team and not a MMPR team,.I kind of wish the yellow ranger didn't have breasts,..but all in all I'm really happy with them and I like they all came with their signature weapons. The Metallic paint/plastic definitely has more of a shiny-spandex look to it than the typical colored plastic I saw on the other toys, so I'm pretty happy about that. I think they look really good. |

I do wonder, if Bandai would be interested in doing something like the Shodo line for older sentai teams, so folks could get the full squad for a somewhat affordable price. But then again I don't know if there's enough interest for these in the first place.

So would you all say the Soul of Chogokin Gx-72 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Dino Megazord is the best Megazord?
Quite of few of them don't look good, and really none of them are inexpensive. I'm wondering if the Chogokin one with the die-cast parts is the best one? It looks really nice. ..also probably the most expensive though. I got all 7 Rangers now (the team of 5 plus the White and Dragon Ranger)..so I think all I need to be 'done' is a Megazord. Then it's back to hunting for more SHF Kamen Riders and SHM 'Zillas. But I spent the day looking at Megazords and kept thinking the Chogokin one was the best looking. Too bad it's not like Voltron where you can get the die-cast one for more money, or an identical one with no die-cast for less money. I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be more options for Megazords (Sentai Zyuranger ones, anyway.) |

The SOC is the best Megazord, yes. Megazords typically aren't very articulated or well painted.
