I still feel most FRS are too big for most Figuarts. Some of them CAN work, but they are noticeabley bigger.

The red is metallic instead of matte to replicate how Kuuga looked in that show, due to the original Kuuga suit being lost and them having to paint Growing. It's not that noticeable, and... well, it's used for every post-season appearance of Kuuga anyway no matter whether it's Godai or Onodera. So the bill fits either way.

Wow, thank you all for your insights! I knew you'd help me figure this out.
I'm glad to hear that the Seihous from five or six years ago have held up. As someone who predominantly collects Transformers, and has for the last decade, talking about a figure from five or six years back is almost like talking about something from prehistory. In the sixteen years that the brand has been producing Masterpiece figures, they've done three different iterations of Optimus Prime, and the seven-year gaps between them are an almost unfathomable chasm. It is like comparing a SO-DO to a RAH. So, in my head, that's what I was expecting from Seihou engineering. I'm maybe a little glad that's not the case? As cool as it would be to see constant improvements, I do appreciate that a $100+ investment won't be invalidated in the next calendar year by something better, more accurate, etc. It's nice to think what I'll own isn't a placeholder, you know? As for budgeting and aftermarket prices... I looked around at a few different sites I've ordered from in the past, and Jungle seemed to have the best selection. Most of the figures I'm looking for are in the 12K-17K yen range, which doesn't seem too laughable to me. My list of figures to get is only seven or eight, and I'd do one every month or two, so it's not out of my budget. (That said, where are people finding decent deals on Seihous? eBay? I've checked Mandarake a few times and I've never seen anything priced at a lower-than-normal amount. Like, their Hibiki is 21K.) As a semi-finite list of desired toys, I'm okay with them being at that price. Anyway, thanks for helping me understand these figures better. TokuNation has the best fans!

ami ami also has Seihous from time to time, great condition and the grouped shipping at the end of the month helps alot. I'm not sure which ones you are still looking for but I'm sure eventually they would have most of them. I found a lot of from my list in the span of two months.
As for Seihou Decade, Neo-Decadriver is significantly cheaper, maybe about half as much as the original. Beside the different driver of course, the other differences is the original release comes with an extra Evil Decade head from the movie, and Neo-Decadriver has the cards of all the 20 Heisei riders. SHF Upgrade used to sell a replaceable white Decadriver, but I think it's sold out on their site. You could always ask if they have plans for it in the future, or try on Ebay? Even if you get that extra driver it probably might be less than getting the original release. Just some thoughts |

The Decade with Neo-Decadriver is significantly cheaper than the original, but that pink driver (which I actually prefer to the white one!) would always look wrong to me in a lineup of TV Series Riders. I wish it wouldn't! I wish my brain would be okay with that small, more aesthetically pleasing difference! But I know it won't. (Shiny Mighty Kuuga is sort of in the same boat, but maybe I could ignore that. Tough call!) Thanks for the tips, and the idea to look into SHF Upgrade! I'll give that a shot. (I mean, I'd really love to have both Decadrivers, if possible.)

As for stores, I almost always use Mandarake and Jungle, both are roughly equal. In my experiences their prices are also more or less the same, depending on the condition of the item. Between the two of them, you're likely to find what you're looking for without too much trouble. I doubt you'll find better deals anywhere else, and the exchange rate when ordering from Japanese sites can sometimes basically function as a discount, at least for USD. In my experience the exchange rate almost always favors the dollar, and while it's usually not a huge difference, it can still save a little bit of money.

Fantastic, just a heads up ami ami updates their used page everyday except Sundays. So if there's something you really want, maybe its best to jump on it quickly?

I use AmiAmi exclusively. Jungle doesn't do DHL which is my only option for shipping right now, and I was banned from Mandarake for too many cancellations (Excuuuse me for getting caught in a category 4 hurricane...).
I got my Kabuto and Agito for a great deal off Facebook, but that is EXTREMELY rare. Kuuga I got for a good deal off RangerBoard. I've seen Kuuga pop up for around 9,500 before on AmiAmi if you can catch it. Quote:

Oh man I feel this, that's exactly the reason I eventually just stopped collecting Transformers. That was my main collection hobby for years, but trying to keep up with it got too overwhelming. Figuarts doesn't feel nearly as hectic in that regard. Even if something does come along in the next few years that somehow surpasses the Seihou line, they're such good figures that they'll be able to hold their own for a very long time I think.

And, yeah, the yen to USD exchange rate can be a nice bonus. I remember the feeling of disappointment a few years ago, as the yen strengthened and I saw my HLJ discount reduce. Nice when it happens, sucks when it doesn't. Quote:
(Oh, and thanks for the SHF Upgrade tip on the Decadriver. Someone on eBay is selling what looks like the same thing for $45, which combined with the Neo Seihou is still less than getting the original by, like, 3K yen.) The main figures I'm looking to get are from series I've already finished, since I can open and display them immediately. (I can't have a trophy up if I haven't earned it!) Those are Kuuga, Agito, Hibiki, and Double. Then there are the figures I'll need in the future, like Kabuto, Kiva, and Decade. Eventually I'll need a Zi-O and a Zero-One, but that's down the line and probably just regular SHFs. (Also JFC Bandai, Seihou Fourze, please and thank you.) Quote:

The latest episode kinda makes me iffy in getting Espada now lmao. I'd be seriously burned if it's another Flying Falcon - > Burning Falcon thing.
Unless it isn't and/or someone else is Espada. |
