Just when I thought I would never have to hear "Yossha Lucky!" again, here we are.
And the fact that it was used in the most utterly meta troupe way possible made it fun. Even when the show is trying to be light, it still feels like it's not too wacky over the top. And I can really dig that. The scene with Kaito and his grandmother was just right for all the timing and feels. Even how he approached wanting to find his parents by trying to use one of the Tojitendo to force them to take him to their main base felt like something an actual individual would do if given the opportunity. It's all just well thought out script writing, and super appreciated. What really gets me are how the power ups aren't just flat out suit changes, or over the top things. They are mcguffins to help along beating the MOTW, but in the same respect they're not offering anything more than what is needed.

I'm back, and boy, am loving Zenkaiger more and more. This was a really fun episode with some really great character interactions, and a pretty solid message to boot.
Seeing all the Kikainoid boys sleep with Kaito is just plain adorable, and Zenkaiser and Jyuran's transformation roll was hilarious, and I just couldn't help but think about "The Emperor's New Groove" every time I saw them rolled together, just seeing these characters interact has been such a treat. And gosh darn, am I loving how the Sentai Gears are being utilized. I love how Kyranger's gives them stupidly crazy luck (Haven't seen Kyuranger yet, but would love to) and Ryusoulger's absolutely won me over, seeing him pull out the RyuSoul Ken with the "Que Bon!" sound effect and everything, which was a joy to see as someone who loved Ryusoulger (Seriously, I wish I had the dough to get that memorial blade). And just want to say, I love the little meta reference with the "What's with the music?" when the Zenkaigers were transforming. And yep, the Kikainoids can more than fill their role as a Sentai, doing dynamic stunts and such no problem. Next week: The Japanese reboot of Wall-E! |
