Hey guys,
I went on a trip to Tokyo in late September and had a chance to visit the Bandai Museum in Omocha no Machi. It’s pretty far from Tokyo, taking about 2.5 hours by train but definitely worth a visit to check out a vast collection ranging from vintage tin toys to modern robots. The museum was practically empty when I arrived, and the town itself is very tiny quiet. It used to be located much closer to Tokyo and I don’t know the reason for the move, but it almost feels like they have given up on the place. I took a couple laps around the museum, so the pictures aren’t exactly in order. Please be warned, there are a LOT of pictures. Clicking the image should take you directly to flickr if you want to see the full size images of the full cabinets, I think the resolution should be 6000x4000 or something so you should be able to zoom in a decent amount. I only took a few pictures of the girl’s section, but there was some
interesting stuff. DSC_0614 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0728 by siningy, on Flickr Various other toys DSC_0606 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0609 by siningy, on Flickr There’s a kids section in the main lobby with quite an awesome selection of toys to play with. DSC_0621 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0622 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0623 by siningy, on Flickr Of course no Bandai Museum would be complete without a large collection of Tokusatsu toys. DSC_0629 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0631 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0632 by siningy, on Flickr I THINK they have every Super Sentai robot in this display. And more Sentai stuff
DSC_0655 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0656 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0657 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0658 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0659 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0660 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0661 by siningy, on Flickr DSC_0688 by siningy, on Flickr The TVs were playing old Sentai shows on loop. Don’t remember which they were though. DSC_0690 by siningy, on Flickr They had some Gundam stuff, but not much. I’m guessing sine Gundam Front is in Tokyo, they didn’t really need to show too much here. The 1:1 scale Gundam bust was cool, but seeing the 1:1 scale Gundam in Tokyo might have made me a little jaded. It's the little things that really get me, like the Daizyujin missing the Pteranodon chest and with a broken/fallen Triceratops horn casually at its feet, or the hilarious mislabeling of the Mechagodzillas by year, or the incredible and far-reaching selection of Ultraman monsters in that play area! I own like half of them but the other half I wish I did! The inclusion of the American Godzilla toy is a little silly as it's not even a Bandai figure - that's by Trendmasters, whose toys Bandai did import in place of doing a toyline of its own.
That Super Premium Godzilla at the entrance, maaaaaaaan. So fitting, so happy to see it actually included in the museum somewhere.
