I can't really comment about Drive because I enjoyed it throughout, but Ghost's problem is often that there's TOO much going on. Since the very first episode that show has been throwing everything it had at the wall to see what stuck, and only now does it feel like it's playing catch up with the story. The only problem is it doesn't have that cast to support that story, because it was too busy with gimmicks and Eyecons at the beginning where it really counted. That's my two cents anyway.
With Sentai you have to remember that while Zyuohger is certainly good, people are enjoying it more because it's coming off the back off an unpopular (in the Western fan base) show. Multiple shows in some cases, since ToQger had its fair share of critics as well.

I think it's a case of comparing apples to oranges here.
People aren't comparing Ghost to Zyuohger, but rather, Ghost to other Kamen Rider series. I'm glad you got into KR, because there's so much to love. Once you go back and start watching shows like Gaim, OOO, Double, or Den-O, you might see why Ghost is falling flat with some people (Keyword being might). Also Drive caught on with a lot of people around the early 20's, from what I heard. Sentai is a bit different, because it kind of adheres to a formula, so it's not shaking things up that people enjoy (Which is why I'm surprised Go-Busters didn't catch on with the Western audience)

I'm currently watching Fur Affinity Rangers, and while I'm enjoying it and it's fun, I can tell Sentai is the inferior franchise (in my personal case) when it comes to all the toku series I watch. However, in terms of being able to sit down and watch the show, it stomps on Ghost hard. I still don't know how I made it to episode 30 of Ghost.

Drive is much more focused than Ghost, and even with Drive I can tell there's a lot of room for improvement. So I already can see it (though I still enjoy both) 3. I guess the formula has just gotten repetitive for me. Maybe I don't actually enjoy it after all? I started off watching Sentai for PR nostalgia, and then I kept watching it because Toku. Now that I got into KR, which I actually enjoy for what it is, Sentai doesn't really have any appeal for me anymore? I guess we'll just have to see as time goes on. I still need to watch a couple of Sentai series (mainly Gekiranger, Abaranger, Carranger, and the rest of Liveman) Quote:

I'm not gonna lie, Ghost quickly lost my interest once I caught up and had to wait for new episodes, but when I was in the process of catching up, I was completely addicted. I sped through what was available incredibly fast. I think I'm going to wait for it to get a bit further before I catch up again, so I can watch it in chunks.

1. I kind of figured that was the case, but still. I thought Ghost was way more interesting than Jetman, which is generally considered one of the best.

Did you not read my post? I stated, in my personal tastes, it's the inferior franchise.

Well then clearly you don't have any reading comprehension.

Then I decided to watch Kamen Rider Ghost, and it completely hooked me. After I caught up, I started watching Drive, which I also love. Yet people say that those are both meh seasons? After starting those two Rider series, any Sentai I've seen has been pretty plain in comparison.
Which leads me to my question (which might be better off in the KR section, but whatever). Why do people consider something like Ghost or Drive boring, when there's so much more going on than in Sentai? I think a lot of criticism of Drive and Ghost stems from both shows being very conventional as far as Rider series go -- there aren't a lot of twists or subversions or surprises that make these shows exciting for many longterm fans. Once you watch a few more Rider shows, you'll start to pick up on the franchise's repeated tropes, and you'll probably begin to see why many get frustrated with these two shows in particular. As a Sentai fan first, I remember discovering Kamen Rider. The first shows I watched -- OOOs, Fourze, and Kiva -- blew my brain to bits, and I began to think Kamen Rider was the franchise that made my toku heart the happiest. Cut to a few years later, and I have a bunch more series under my belt. I'm way more desensitized to Rider's tropes. As such, I've gravitated back to my first toku love: Sentai. |

Does his comment really warrant insults? Despite the caveats you imbedded in your post, it did seem like you were being pretty ironclad in your determination of each franchise's quality. So I can see where Aoi was coming from. Besides, his comment is pretty innocuous and ultimately you're on the same page, so there's no reason to be rude.
