One of the 20th Anniversary items snuck into the Power Rangers Megaforce toy line is the Armored Mighty Morphin' Red Ranger, part of the 'Armored Might' sub line. The figure stands approximately 6 inches tall, has 31 points of articulation, and comes with power sword, blade blaster, dragon dagger, dragon armor shield and arm bands, two sets of hands, and card P-072 from the action card game.
With the S.H. Figuarts TyrannoRanger release only six months away, is this figure worth hunting down and purchasing at all? View the 20 image gallery and discuss after the jump! I'll give it credit,I thought it was gonna be as articulated as the 3 3/4 inch figures. It looks like it's gonna be as articulated as the 6 inch Thundercats were and I really liked those figures.Odd proportions and over musculature aside,it looks to be a pretty good figure. One thing it does have over the Figuarts release is removable Dragon Armor.
If I wasn't aware of Figuarts,I'd possibly consider picking this up.Sadly,I can only have one and I prefer human proportions, multiple accessory variations and hands. |

Anyone remember Bandai of America's Super Legends Extreme figures? I thought those looked better proportion-wise: http://linearranger.com/RPMToys/SLToy02.htm

If I wasn't aware of Figuarts,I'd possibly consider picking this up.Sadly,I can only have one and I prefer human proportions, multiple accessory variations and hands. Most importantly, the figure feels more rubbery than a Thundercats figure, especially at the elbow joints. Overall I like it but I am not a big fan of how the dragon shield connects, it's not very secure. Reminds me of the auto-morphing 5" Green Ranger from the 90's and how its shield always came off. Though this one is not as bad, the way it connects is similar. I would have preferred a shield sculpted as 1 piece rather than 2 halves. I also wish the bicep rings were more secure, like if they could peg into place. Not a bad figure but not as good as I was hoping for. For what you get, you do get a good bang for your buck. Good for those who want a very durable, fully articulated figure to pick up and handle with reckless abandon. You can give this to a kid but I doubt that the armor will stay on. I think the armor may actually work better on the Goseigers than on the MMPR Red Ranger. If you want more articulation and a more screen-accurate sculpt, save up for the Figuarts.

Is it me, or did Bandai model this figure after Scott Steiner? Talk about "Genetic Freak"!

After seeing the Figuarts TyrannoRanger, it further solidifies my disdain for the "muscle bound" look for heroes that doesn't have them.
