The more I see of Juuru, the more I like him. He strikes a good balance between the happy-go-lucky Red Ranger and the serious Red Ranger. He's happy, optimistic, but he knows when he needs to take things seriously and not stupid to joke around in inappropriate times.
Questioning his leadership was also a nice addition considering it's this early in the series and hopefully we'd see him grow his leadership skills with each episode. I also liked that he didn't force Sena to leave her race and make her Ranger duty her first priority. He didn't go for "Lives before self interests" speech and he let her make her own choice in what she wants to do. He's not super talented that everything is easy for him, but he's also not dumb enough to not have common sense and he doesn't take everything too seriously. Seems like a well-balanced Red Ranger for the series. Sena's plot was handled extremely well. I expected some conflict to happen with the copy losing the race because it didn't perform as good as the real one and we'd see Sena coming to the team angry for ruining her dream and quitting only to come back at the end because saving lives matters more, but so glad that didn't happen and they went with a clever twist. I will say I don't like the civilian clothes they went with. These kinds of outfits fits the more mystical/familiar teams who comes from non-Earth backgrounds. The rangers in this series are all ordinary Earth folks and they all should have their regular casual clothes instead of what they went with. |

I've said it previously but the author is Umika/Lupin Yellow's best friend Shiho. Next episode I hope they are eating gyoza from the restaurant of Mr. Ryuranger himself whether it is at the place or take-out.

Oh man, now that's a payoff.
It took a whole year of dino knights in between, but I guess thieves really did make a comeback! I mean, hey, I'd read it. So, even putting aside the fact that it took the shortest possible route to my heart by making such a direct reference to LuPat, I loved this episode. It's not exactly flawless in its construction though. The way the central dilemma plays out doesn't feel quite right in ways I struggle to put my finger on, and the entire debut fight for Land Mage (despite being loads of fun) combined with the rather truncated epilogue (to put it mildly) makes it feel an awful lot like the episode "ends" four minutes before it ends. Still, all those issues totally fade away for me in the face of how delightful this show's energy continues to be. It's not even like the story is a bust or anything, too. There's solid characterization for Juuru, Sena, and even Tametomo, with his continued rival vibes. I give the show major props for getting right to the point and having Sena be just as much the focus here as anyone, even getting the big hero moment in the fight at the end. The stuff actually about Juuru isn't exactly groundbreaking or anything. I think most Sentai shows with childlike Reds do an episode early on laying out why they have a legitimate claim to a leadership position above their infinitely more mature comrades, and this one isn't a bad one of those. Sort of a diet version of episode 3 of ToQger, which is a comparison Kiramager might have some trouble escaping, but, you know, ToQger was great.

I just have to say I really like the interior for the base. It just somehow looks exactly how it should in my mind! One bad thing, the villain base scenes weren't too engaging for some reason. I'm still not a fan of some of the designs for non-human characters either. Still, this sentai will take some time to judge, it still doesn't seem like the next great show after Kyuranger for me but we'll see.
