"What ?! That comic book is the Book of Ancient SoL is supposed to protect ! and it was written by Tassel ? EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH !!!!" EDIT : yooo. In the next Ep preview Dezast is totally attacking Legiel. Something's going on here. I knew he was a solo worker and not exactly following Megiddo, but not to the point he would attack them. Suddenly, storius becomes a lot more stronger with cloning techniques as well as slash. slash gain a new defensive technique. Everyone is as strong as their debut episode referring to saber crimson drgaon, blades lion daisenki(who doesn't feel like the secondary rider anymore). Power levels are bs. We went from buster and slash at master class during their debuts to getting dwarf by the trio of seiken swordriver riders as punching bags for caliber and storius gang. Now, we're believing slash got tricks up his sleeves to top King Arthur as well as Yuri.
And to be fair on Daishinji's part, he is using a lot more special attacks more than usual to counter his opponents. And if we're going to believe Kamen Rider stats, King Of Arthur is actually below the strength of a Wonder Combo. I'll give you the part on Rintaro, though. Maybe it's cuz of how Vulcan was handled in Q2, but King Lion Dai Senki has only appeared in Q2 for about less than 10 minutes. What I like to believe though that Reiwa is trying change up, is that the secondary rider would no longer be set up as "the main rider's partner", but would instead be having their own "journey" of sorts. This is largely evident with Fuwa who was pretty much detached to Aruto for most of the series. |

Hey, guys, who's this Sophia character everyone keeps mentioning?
I'm joking, I'm joking! The real question here is who is responsible for dressing Touma up in clothes from Tilda Swinton's wardrobe each episode. |

Yeah haha, I've been supportive of a lot of the unique clothing choices our main riders have rocked over the past few years, but Touma's is hard for me to appreciate!

I'm broadly fine with it... but flares, Touma? Flares are back? No. I can't stand for that. Hahaha.

I'm surprised kento isn't revived or come back as a foe obstacle or ally yet maybe in the 30s like classic rider. Although, I'm expecting more casualties on the way like Yuri to Ran maybe Daishinji, the new guy, the despicable, and the favorite master class swordsman. It might help flesh out the character more if they consolidated the cast. I can see why they didnt intro a whole bunch if the southern base swordsman. Even sophia been gone for months. I was expecting more scenes from her and kamijo. They're seem to be a good confidant story there to explore. Saber is doing good at intro new idea, but abruptly resolve it of went 180. It's like there's a start and end, but the middle chunk of development is gone. The whole guild of brotherhood doesn't feel that close and warm. Blades got to be the weakest developed secondary rider in years and some years the secondary rider isn't the second male lead like kusaka/kaixa with kiba around. |

Hmm, on the one hand, Daishinji responding to Touma's explanation by challenging him to a duel, as if you could judge the truth of someone's words by how they fought, is such a pointless move that was clearly just an excuse to give us another fight scene... but on the other hand, judging the truth of someone's words by how they fight is exactly the kind of thing a knight in a chivalric story would do, and not out-of-place in tokusatsu either, especially given Daishinji's ability to "hear" the swords. And the fight scene it was just an excuse for was really cool! So I guess I don't mind it. I especially liked that as soon as Mei learned of another anomaly, Touma abandoned their Duel and Daishinji didn't try to stop him leaving, they both had their priorities right.

Okay, so I've been leaving my boy Touma hanging for nearly two weeks now, which is really bad timing when his life sucks so much at the moment, but I finally sat down to confirm that, yeah! It's not a lot of fun being Touma right now!
This is an aggressively setup-y episode, so there's only so much to say about it, but I continue to really enjoy the direction the show is going in, even as Saber's weird quirks refuse to go away. There's just something fundamentally satisfying, probably especially as someone who came into the franchise with OOO and that whole era, about the idea of Kamen Rider actually having to directly save somebody, rather than simply defeating a monster to protect people indirectly. This isn't the best execution of that idea or anything, to be fair -- it's still mostly Touma screaming VERY LOUDLY AND CONSTANTLY about how he needs to save a person, but that's an aspect of his character I find more endearing than anything. He always seems to be taking things like five times as seriously as everybody else, as though he's in a totally different show, and it's sort of cute. (He might be more obnoxiously energetic than Mei at this point?) It's benefitting the overall atmosphere of the current arc, too, because none of the Riders are in the same show as him right now, in a way. The Sword of Logos crew don't even know the current Megid status quo yet, and Yuri continues to be disturbingly unconcerned with his surroundings. I'm liking Yuri's aloof nature especially because it rubs in how terrible Touma's current arrangement is. He use to have five whole other guys he trusted with his life who were always eager to jump in to help fight the bad guys, and now he's down to one guy who Mei needs to literally shove onto the battlefield before he realizes he's supposed to be backing Saber up. Touma's not totally alone, but there are points where it feels like he might as well be. I have to imagine the reason Daishinji couldn't feel anything from his sword is very much because Touma's heart is just not totally in this right now. Still, that was a pretty cool fight scene, though. Once again, I really appreciate seeing a bunch of Saber's forms (especially Brave Dragon!), and it also stays true to Touma's character, in this case. He's not actually that great with a sword, so Saber cycles through a ton of different powers to try and compensate with flashy attacks, as he usually does, all while the much more experienced Slash shrugs them off with minimal effort. It's small bits of consideration like this that make so inclined to forgive Saber for its faults elsewhere. And to top it all off, this was a Hidenori Ishida episode, so it's also done in a visual style that I quite like. Shingo's introduction right before the theme song especially has his name written all over it. On a more minor note, I also realized during this one I'm instinctively looking at the sword's face when Saikou is talking while being held by his Shadow, so between the writing and the directing and everything, something is going very right with him and his weird character concept. Not a stellar new pinnacle for the the show or anything, but an enjoyable episode that left me eager to see the conclusion. You know, when it airs... like a week ago, already. Heh...
